When the movie is flat like this one likely is, the CUT HERE marks will tend to be a 1/2 perf off. Big deal.

We almost had no show. A shipping screw up meant I was
not going to get my print until very late in the afternoon.

No problem. But then, in case U haven't seen or heard the news,
a major structural failure on the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge closed
it indefinately in both directions. And my print was stuck on it.

To make a long story short- - my print finially arrived
about 50min before show time, and I still had run 5 other
auditoriums & move two prints around to make room for
this one. (Don't ask!)

I checked the first couple of "CUT HERE"s with a frame counter,
but didn't have time to check the rest. I barely got it done
in time. Show is running now, and so far no one has come out
to complain- - so I'm going to assume everying is OK. Right
now I'm stuck in another part of the building so I can't keep
an eye on the show as much as I'd like to.

If you'd like to read more about the Bay Bridge failure, clik link:
Bay Bridge Closure

The bridge is still closed, with no estimate of re-opening.

Looks like traffic will be a mess here till they get it repaired.
Fortunately, I don't have to cross the bridge to get to & from work.

Come on Joe, that's like saying the frame lines will be 1/2 a perf off on Flat movies.

My print had at least 2 one perf off on the cut here!
Head 6 and i can't remember the other.
Loved the movie but it is very sad at the same time.

The sound did seem lower than the norm.

Justin, no, that's like saying that the CUT HERE marks are printed to the edge of the 1.85 image area. Think about it. All it takes is a little common sense about film formats. Personally, I don't think the CUT HERE marks should be there at all but in this age where 95%+ of people in projection booths are idiots, I guess I can see why some studios include them.

If the marks "tend" to be off, it's only because someone is sloppy with their work. Anyone who is involved with the production of the prints should know the edge of the flat picture is not the frame line.

Maybe it's not a big deal to account for this when you are aware it's a potential issue and you're looking for it. However, very few movies have any "cut here" marks, so dealing with them is far from routine to begin with. When they are present, getting them on the frame line should be as critical as ensuring the chageover cues are in the right position or the attached trailer is in frame. It's no different than last summer when the marks on Wall*E were off by one perf - and it was a scope picture.

There's a lot of bitching on FT about film handlers who aren't doing things well, so I don't understand why you would be so forgiving about labs not making sure they are sending out quality prints.

We just screened our "sneak" which is happening at least state-wide before opening day tomorrow. I did not get to see all of the movie, but something that instantly struck me was how nice our print looked. It was rock steady with amazing focus on even the smallest text. I forgot to check the lab, but I am very impressed.

That's right. You've gotta be smarter than the print.

Are they from Taiwan? They make some very nice prints.

Ours came from Deluxe and as usual bounce all over the screen. [Roll Eyes]

I didn't really have time to watch any of the film,
except a few times when I stuck my head in to make sure
everything was running OK, but one of the things I did
notice was that the print quality was excellent. It had
a visual "snap" I haven't seen in most prints I get lately.

As I said in my previous post- - due the fact I had almost
NO time to make up this print before the show, I only checked
the first "cut here" line with a frame counter to see if it
was accurate, which it was on my print.

The rest of the reels I cut by finding the change-over
cue marks and then measuring from there to my cut point
using a frame-ruler I have affixed to my make-up bench.
It was quicker for me that way. And I had no time.
In the end, everything wound up in frame.

Our print looks great too. I'm heading in in a while, but I thought it came from Deluxe. Will check.

The DTS playback from DTS6D in 3 theaters I checked turned out great in sound balance. And it was not low. I have not heard it in DD though or SR so I cannot tell. By the way MJ still had it and he was great.

Yes it sounds truly great in our DTS house but lower volume in our DD house?
It could be we have issues in our DD house.

He was great, full of genius, polite and kind to the whole crew.

You can see how great the final concert would have been!
Our print is sharp and steady.
