Sony's original plan was likely to follow through with the two week release, and have the DVD set to come out for Black Friday. Since all the exhibitors refused to play the film with such a short release window, they went in this direction instead. Paramount has been getting a lot of heat with this as well, as "The Goods" was scheduled to be released on DVD this past week, less than 2 months after it's theatrical release, and NATO had a fit about it, so it got pushed back to the end of the month. The same thing is happening this week with "GI Joe", but Paramount is just taking the heat for that one and is planning to go through with the DVD release on Tuesday, just barely 2 months after the film was in theaters.
As for this film, where were all the sold out shows Sony swore up and down we were going to have? I had to run this on three screens this weekend, and the only thing I have to say about business was, this is it? I've actually heard the film played out much better on the West Coast, but out East over here, we had nothing, in fact it was amongst the slowest weekends in recent memory.
