I first this about the 15th of last month. There was no press release or anything just a mention by Paramount sales reps to bookers. As for NATO "predicting 2013" as the end of film, these jokers were "predicting" the end of film every year since around 2005. They've been saying 2013 for at least four years and they have always said THAT was based on what Fox said in their now famous letter. Before they were saying 2013, they always said their predictions were a guess at best. The discount theatre about 30 minutes from my location did not add Frozen starting 12/27. This is after we heavily advertised it was ending Christmas Eve. This theatre is a twin running 35mm. So films are indeed becoming less needed even for bargain houses.  |  IP: Logged Michael Riley Film Handler Posts: 52 From: New Jersey Registered: Apr 2010 posted 12-27-2013 05:06 PM                  Well if it's any indication, the local Cinemark theater that still runs 75% 35mm isn't advertising Paranomal Activity, but managed to get 35mm prints of Walter Mitty, Grudge Match, Hobbit, Frozen, and Saving Mr Banks. Wolf of Wall Street, 47 Ronin, and another print of Hobbit are digital. I imagine they will putter along for a couple more months, rotating what they can in their digital houses until they can no longer get anything in 35mm, then close the doors for good.  |  IP: Logged Robert E. We were really counting on that one, too. The way things are going I don't know if you want to rely on that. Even if someone is offering prints your pickings will be slim. Of course you only have two screens to keep busy so your booker may be counting on still being able to find a couple of worthy titles for a while longer. One thing is for sure: The studios that keep offering prints will be able to book a lot more screens. Namely, avoiding the bad publicity which might come from it.
