Everyone is complaining about how George is ruining the Star Wars movies. You don't see him "fixing" Willow or Howard the Duck, do you? Of course not, because those were PERFECT TO BEGIN WITH! All 6 movies together costs $90 at Amazon. But if you want the original trilogy only, the price is $40. The prequel trilogy only is also $40. So you pay an extra $10 for no reason that I can find by purchasing all 6 movies together. WTF? Nobody with more than 2 brain cells will buy all 6 in one box. EDIT: OK the complete collection comes with 3 more BDs. Episodes 7, 8 and 9? Nope, just special features. That's the kind of crap I'd honestly rather watch on Youtube or read on a website. Seriously. Speaking of boxes, does anyone know how this will be packaged? I want standard Blu-ray cases. It's fine if those cases come in a shitty cardboard box that I can toss into our ever-increasing landfill, but the movies must either be int heir own Blu-ray cases are all 3 movies share a single case, like Star Trek 2-4 do. Ever since DVD came about, studios started getting extremely retarded on their boxes. He said it was Blu. The sub-titles of Jabba are sharp, but the rest looks way ordinary. Phantom looks like video. No thanks. Using a variety of sources, he has created 720p versions that attempt to restore everything to the way they looked in theatres in 77, 81, 83. Those that have seen them claim that they are pretty effective, even on larger screens. Do an internet search for "Harmy" and "Despecialized Star Wars" to find out more. It's likely that the screens you saw them on weren't set up/calibrated well. In 'A New Hope' you can make out every pebble near Luke's place near the beginning; truly impressive. 'Menace' is a little more variable and there are some soft shots, but overall it's very impressive. Cheap cardboard with little blue trays/doors inside. If I bought this I'd have to buy 6 regular Blu-ray boxes and print out my own artwork. I don't like cheap-looking cardboard on my shelves. Only homeless people like cardboard. These sets always try to do something special with the packaging. Not really that is actually a misquote of Archie when exploded at Meat Head about all the talk of the Vet Nam war! King George will do what King George will do. We will grip and then he will change it again. And still he doesn’t make the change in the first movie that really bugs me. When Han and Lea are talking in the cockpit, they are traveling at light speed to the secret hide out and the stars are not moving. I haven't gotten through the whole set yet, but here are my initial impressions: The packaging is both awesome and awful. All the artwork is nice but the slip cover style disc holders may inevitably damage the discs. The marketing guy that produced that should be fired, or better yet, force choked. The images are stunning to my eyes: I've never seen Star Wars look this good. The amount of detail popping out from all the practical sets, costumes, and models really shines. It really makes you appreciate this style of filmmaking instead of the CGI fest of contemporary Hollywood. Of course, the prequels look as glossy as ever. Phantom Menace has also been made to look more like them. In context of the series, it works but I would rather see it still look like film. Sound mixes so far are pretty interesting. I watched all of A New Hope and they've done a great job of cleaning up the mix. Is it the original mix? No. What we are hearing here is details that we never new existed, specifically in the dialogue. It's a little jarring at first to hear that sort of clarity, but honestly I welcome it. The sound was obviously recorded that way, but it just never got worked into the mix. Having it now is a treat and makes for a very engaging sound mix. The dragon call is cheesy as hell, sounds cool in 5.1, but is totally out of place with the rest of the mix. It was a bad decision. Watched some deleted scenes. Totally wicked. Can't wait to dig through all of them. Overall, this is a nice set so far. I wish that eventually we could get the original theatrical versions, but these will suffice for now: I'll just pretend the changes aren't there. Bill Hunt at the Digital Bits made an astute observation that Lucasfilm would be smart to release a polished version of the originals because quite frankly, it's only a matter of time before bootleggers and fans create their own polished version of it. There already is a pretty awesome set of a "de-specialized trilogy" out there that fans have compiled together with HD footage, color correction, etc. plus an attempt at a 70mm re-mix. The results are pretty awesome. I honestly think one day we will get the originals in a great set, whether from Lucasfilm or from concerned fans. Overall, the set is still Star Wars and it's still awesome. Lots of memories with all 6 of these films. A lot of it sounds like ADR-city. The timbre and quality of the dialog varies from one sentence to the next. Chop chop! When they were outside with the Jawas buying the droids, I could hear lots of reverb in the dialog... kind of like when Luke yells "Move closer!" while riding the speed bikes in a Jedi scene during the trailer for the Special Editions. Reverb.
