Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 02-04-2010 10:41 PM                     Um, the topics of global warming and people getting their panties in a twist over heavy handed environmentalist messages are political in tone and need to be dropped. Despite its broadly brushed preaching, and the fact Avatar really isn't that great of a movie, it's still filling movie theater parking lots here in "red state"/military town Lawton-Fort Sill. It's obvious most people aren't getting offended because it's just a damned escapist movie. The customers are looking for no more than 2.5 hours of 3D eye candy. It's sort of like people listening to music and not paying attention to the lyrics. At least that's what I think is happening. quote: Joe Tommassello For a start? The filmmakers didn't consult Rousseau, Kant, Nietzsche or the World Wildlife Fund regarding placing a subliminal message or on how to change the world. Cameron came up with a story long ago and technology caught up with his desires to make the movie. He's ended up telling the story quite well. The nearest place AVATAR was playing in 3D was 90 miles away in Grand Junction and Luci and I saw it there on Tuesday. Very good film. The 3D didn't get in the way nor was it there to "Wow!" you. It was just there. It was the shortest 2:40 film I've seen in a long time, probably since LOTR or HEAT. I wanted more story and backstory. It's hard to tell a full and complete story unless you get nine hours like LOTR had or eight films chronicling Harry Potter from 11 YO thru adolescence. I don't think it's the best film of the year, but it's a good one and has really assisted the industry that pays my bills. Thanks Mr. Cameron.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. They just had to eat the pudding to make it happen. It's noisy, I'll say that for it. I don't understand the whole concept of those clear computer screens that people are carrying around. It was obviously done "because it looks cool in the movie" and not because anyone would actually want such a silly device. I can't imagine anything more hard to use than a screen that you could see through. It was pretty neat looking, but I agree the novelty would probably wear off after awhile. You're not going to get good black levels on image quality with such a screen.
