Congratulations, Mr. Cameron. BTW, TITANIC Domestically: $600,788,188 AVATAR Domestically: $552,797,000 $47,991,188 to go...Next Sunday or Monday should see that record topple too. As far as Australia goes, our TITANIC record was set at $57million. To date, AVATAR has now done $89million here. Some interesting concepts and ideas. Story is somewhat recycled, but in a decent way. Bad humans were one dimensional characters, do not think (but many don't in real life, so...). It's more Fantasy than SF. It definitely has more story to it than the TLOTR123. Emotionally involving. Also worth it in 2D. Transformers series Crystal Skull Spiderman 3 Transformers Pirates series Star Wars Prequels Cameron had the idea for Avatar years ago, but he wisely sat decided to sit on it... to wait... Until the BAR had been LOWERED enough that people would think Avatar was the greatest thing EVER. I'm also enjoying the fact we finally have a real blockbuster...not something that comes out Thursday, makes $120m opening weekend and is all done by week three when the percentage starts going our way. You have to give Cameron credit for putting in more effort than almost every other filmmaker and, for that, the audience has rewarded him. It's not just about marketing. The audience was told they'd be seeing something they'd never seen before. And, visually at least, this was absolutely true. They only reason other movies aren't making this kind of money is that the audience, deep down, knows that it's all the same crap they've already seen before. Oh, wait. The second Transformers movie made a ton of money.
