I found it a little slow towards the beginning, but having finished it, the exposition was all necessary and I wouldn't change a thing. Me and some friends went as far as to speculate that in 20 years words like "Navi" and "Hometree" will be as much a part of film lexicon as "Jedi" and "Deathstar" are now. I will watch this again. I was really excited when I learned he was doing another movie (I don't count his documentaries and IMAX 3D underwater stuff as a movie). A couple of months ago I saw the first trailer that was released and from that moment I thought "oh no, this movie has some major suck potential". I decided at that point not to watch ANY more trailers for this movie so I could go into it cold and appreciate it fully. The picture was beautiful, the sound was very good, but the story just flat out sucked. I mean come on, how many times has this story been made? Most scenes (and the movie in general) were very predictable. And yes, it really is "Dances With Wolves In Space starring the SmurfCats". Mr. Cameron, I still wholeheartedly respect you and your work. I realize that not every movie is for everyone, but this movie was just stupid. 2 out of 5 stars for the technology of the movie. I won't bother watching it again. Mr. Cameron obviously was too concerned about the visuals to pay attention to the fact he was making a movie. I viewed a 35mm print by choice, as I didn't want to wear glasses for 3 hours and watch a dim picture. Although I watched about 10 minutes of a 3D check, and it did look very good, I am positive I made the right choice in watching the 35mm print. Again...3 hours with glasses!!! 3D movies are best left at 90 minutes. So, this may be the reason that I almost dosed off a couple of times because of its slow start One day I envision a time where the studios realize that early morning screenings are NOT the time to be running movies. If you can remember, please note in your review what the picture format was (flat / scope) and what type of screen you watched it on (common height / common width). Presentation: No problems at all! Maybe a *touch* quiet during the movie itself, but nothing worth whining about. It was in scope 3D even though this theater uses top masking exclusively. I'm confused. Apparently Cameron's plan isn't working so well. I have no clue if the 3D is "Ghost busted" or not. I don't even know what that means despite asking on this forum before. Although I don't know why they would make an inferior 3D version of it and a Ghost Busters 3D version of it. What the fuck? The Movie: I probably liked it more than Brad did, but definitely not as much as the rest of you. It is absolutely 100% Dances With Wolves in Space: The Videogame. I will say right off the bat that this is the best 3D I have ever seen, bar none. Better than the IMAX 3D I saw at the shitty Luxor in Vegas, and that was better than any other 3D I've seen. While the 3D and all of the other graphics were awesome to look at, the story was kind of "eh". I was enjoying it for about 2/3rds of the movie. Then it became so cliched and preachy that I just lost interest. I was never really able to connect with the blue people's characters. I don't hate the movie, but it is definitely Cameron's weakest film. Also, what the hell is it with Cameron and women who smoke? Does he think smoking makes women attractive? And why would someone who is so fond of nature smoke?  |  IP: Logged
