Now that this thread has floated up again, I'm reminded of one more reason I don't like the Freestyle machines.
The ice chute is too long.
It's probably because, in order to pack all the components into such a tight space and maintain the size profile that they wanted, they had to mount the dispensing motor near the top of the machine and route the chute down through a tangle of other components.
Consequently, when you push the ice lever, it takes as long as a second for the ice to fall into your cup. That's not so bad, by itself but, when you release the lever, ice keeps falling as the cubes that are still in the chute fall down.
The upshot of this is that it is difficult to time how long to press the ice lever so that you don't end up with a cup overflowing with ice... which you will have to dump down the drain.
Next time you see one of these machines, look in the drain tray. I bet you'll see it is full of half-melted ice cubes from all the other people who accidentally overfilled their cups with ice and dumped half of it down the drain.
Not only is this a design flaw, I think it's pretty unsightly, too. It don't feel very appetized to drink Coke when I see a slop bin half full of melted ice and spilled soda. Do you?
