First time having a walkthrough of a projection booth was at the Celebration Cinema in Lansing Michigan. I was trained in 35mm in 2009 and I have been working in this cinema since 2012, almost with the digital projector, although we kept our 35mm projector (which we use between 5 and 10 times a year). In addition to our normal activities, we organize 3 festivals per year (short film, British cinema and Iberian and Latin American cinema). Having good experience in computer science and video, I make many DCPs, subtitling and even VI recordings, mainly for these 3 festivals. I am also very interested in the accessibility of our cinema to people with hearing or visual disabilities. English is not my first language so I hope I will manage to make myself understood properly. Rachael Barbash Technical Services/Projection Manager at Gateway Film Center in Columbus, Ohio I've been working in theaters since 2002 and have been at my current theater since 2007 We're a not for profit 8 screen with 4K, 2K, 35mm, and 70mm. We play everything including mainstream Hollywood, retro, indie and local. The last few years I've also run tech at Art House Convergence so if anyone goes to that you'll see me running around. In the 1910s-1930s my grandfather ran the projectors in various theaters my great-grandfather owned in Brooklyn and I've been doing some research in old trade magazines about them recently. Recently left to start up my own KDM management business PicnicKDM servicing major studios and independents. Just finishing our first release having issued 73,792 keys across 62 territories. Have done some digital installs since that post.. (search my threads including one about going over to the Dark Side, lol.) May be doing an install soon for a local independent cinema. Anyways, I have since moved to Idaho, in a rural area. I have been working as an electrician and at motocross tracks, announcing races. I have also designed and installed a P.A. system for the dirt track speedway near me..using 1200 watts of QSC power and 25 horns. As for cinema,I still have my Christie PG35 projector, Autowind 3, Kelmar rewind bench, Dolby CP65, Strong switcher and L.P. associates Lamphouses. They are all (except the CP65) in storage in my outbuilding, enduring the winters here. I am doing major renovations on my house (which unfortunately is too small to set up a proper screening room.) My property is big enough and I plan on eventually building the house I really want, including the screening room. I manage a 2-screen theatre in Catskill, NY built in 1920 (The Community Theatre) I've worked here since 2006, when I was 17. I do pretty much everything except the accounting and film booking. Projection, cleaning, box, concession, website, voicemail, Facebook, newspaper ads, etc etc... I'm Karim, I work for a small independent movie theater in Lausanne, Switzerland. Our venue is 100% run on a voluntary basis, no one gets any salary. We screen 2-3 times a week in the evenings. I work as an administrator and accountant and also part-time technician. Other than that, I have a degree in IT and work as a computer science high school teacher. I registered at Film-Tech to know more about digital screening as we are currently replacing our whole screening infrastructure. We did lots of 35mm until 6 years a go or so, and since then we mainly screened from optical discs and only recently started screening from files. No big budget movies but mainly independent documentaries, art movies and such. We also still do 16mm! I think that's it? I am an engineer at Boston Light And Sound where I design projection and sound systems for cinemas and multi purpose venues using Digital, 35, 70, and 16mm film. I am also the main Q-Sys programmer at BLS. I also oversee the installation of these systems as the lead onsite engineer and perform commissioning of them. I work on film festivals, studio screenings, premieres, and special events on both a design and lead engineer role for BLS. I also teach classes on a yearly basis for AMIA regarding care and maintenance of film projection equipment. In my past, I have operated 70mm IMAX DOME cinema in Copenhagen and worked at multiple commercial cinemas around Denmark as a projectionist. Nowadays I help out in a very small cinema called Gillelej Bio as a volunteer projectionist once a week. I do that to contribute to the local community, because without volunteers the town would be without a cinema. In my work, I create customizable DCP content for marketing purpose.
