I think that the attraction is somewhat more than just based on talent. Certainly the popularity of that person (musician, actor etc) plays into it. Also it doesn't supprise me that women, especially young ones, fawn over those that can play various instruments (guitar, drums etc) because of the bad boy image they typically have.
IMHO, the bad boy image is probably the basis for the large majority of the attraction for women. They will throw themselves at those in hopes to gain their attention, and in their mind affection.
On the other hand, a female musician usually gains respect, not attraction and lust (based on music ability alone). A male musician that has a reputation for treating women like crap, and look like crap, will still have to fight the groupies off with a stick. Gene Simmons who claims to have beded over a thousand women still has thousands more who would gladly join the long and undistinguished list.
