I have a rant (I know what your thinking....I always rant). Why is it that when you are a guy that other guys automatically assume you care about sports at all. They just start asking you questions like....."Hey, how about those Sox?" What socks, the ones I'm wearing? For some reason when you tell them you don't watch sports they clam up and have nothing to talk about after that. It's like they can't even carry on an intelligent conversation with you if they can't talk about sports or something. Then you are some kind of pussy to them just because you don't care about sports. I know guys who totally ignore their wives whenever there is a game on. Then when their wife leaves them they don't know why. Is sports really that important? When you are 80 and on your death bed are you really going to look back and regret that you didn't watch enough sports? No. Your going to regret not spending more time with your family because you had your nose glued to the tv all the time. Besides if you want to watch a real sport watch boxing. They beat each other. WHO's YOUR DADDY!? I lived in Boston for 7 years. Nobody will admit it but there's an secret to being a Sox fan: The secret is to get used to the fact that they WILL lose! No doubt about it in my mind. Just ask Bill Buckner! He'll tell you. The Red Sox ALWAYS lose! Once you get that through your head the rest is easy. You see, all these supposed fans out there, going crazy because they beat the Yankees are just a bunch of posers... just like any team who gets close to winning the championship and all the supposed "fans" come out of the woodwork... they aren't real fans. That's basically what many Americans want to see afterall. Bloodthirsty perverts. I like baseball. Granted, it can be damned boring to just watch a game -especially a no-hitter. Whenever one pitcher is working on a no hit game you almost always have the opposing pitcher throwing 1-hit or 2-hit ball. The score ends up being 1 to 0. Really exciting. Yawn. But here's why I like baseball: anyone can play it. That is NOT the case for football or basketball or even hockey for that matter. You have to be a genetic mutant to one extreme or another to be successful at any of those other sports. For football, you have to be some giant monolith able to bench press a pickup truck. Basketball requires you to be afflicted with giganticism disease. Hockey requires you to be a big hothead with serious periodontal disease. Baseball requires players to have skill, not physical prowess. Fast wits, great eye-hand coordination, etc. is what makes a baseball player successful, not being the biggest, tallest or meanest son of a bitch on the field. Oh, and I am glad the Red Sox won. Game 7 was entertaining. Lots of home runs. The Yankees were so damned smug and full of themselves (especially A-Rod) that being victims of the biggest come from behind victory in baseball playoff history couldn't have happened to a more deserving team.  |  IP: Logged Jeremy Fuentes Mmmm, Dr. Pepper! It'll probably be another 18 years before the Astros claw their way into another NLCS (only to probably lose again). Guess they'll get to tack another year onto that 40-some-odd year tally of most years for a baseball franchise to exist without even an appearance in the World Series, much less a win. I was hoping the Astros would win. A Houston versus Boston series would have been great since both teams have been denied in various ways for way the hell too long already. It would not have mattered to me which team would win since fans of both would be extremely appreciative of a victory. On the bright side, at least it isn't a New York versus St. Louis series. The Yankees have, what, 49867 appearances in the World Series followed by St. Louis with 5893? Ok, so I'm exaggerating. But the Yankees and Cardinals are number 1 and 2 on trips to the World Series. Pretty damned boring to see the same teams going to back to the series again and again and again. I hope the Red Sox crush the Cardinals. I was excited! And anyway, I never mentioned any other sport then baseball so I assumed (yeah, make and ass out of u and me) that common sense would be used and no one would bring hockey into it... And the Red Sox winning the pennant TO ME is breaking at least some of the curse, they haven't won a pennant in 18 years. Yes, I was alive when they won the last pennant but I was far too young to remember. I grew up watching the Sox and for them to finally win the pennant is good enough for me. I'd LOVE to see them take it all but I will always remember what happened as I watched them beat the Yankees in game 7.
