USA (1774.21 miles northeast of Dallas) Registered: Jun 99 posted 10-25-2004 07:38 PM                        There are 162 games in the regular season, which lasts from April through October. The teams are divided into two leagues (American and National); each league has three divisions. For each league, the winner of each division, plus the non-division-winning team with the best record during the regular season (the "wildcard") play a 5-game series (must win three) to narrow the field down to four teams (two per league). The two remaining teams in each league play each other in a 7-game series (must win four). This leaves two teams (the American League Champion [Sox] and the National League Champion [Cardinals]), who play each other in the World Series, which is a 7-game series (must win four). It's really pretty simple...much more so than pro football, etc. Pedro pitches tomorrow! I don't know how people can find the time to watch next to nothing happen 4 times a week. A ball! Another ball! Oh a hit! No, it's a foul. Another ball. Foul! Foul! Foul! Yeah, baseball is great. To be successful in football or basketball, you must be born with the genes to be able to play. It's more about technological advancements in equipment than it is about the athlete and basic equipment. I am an avid bowler, and I clearly remember the "transition" from wood/lacquer lanes with rubber bowling balls to the "modern" artificial lanes and urathane balls. It is funny to watch these "professionals" come to a turnament with dozens of pre-drilled balls, only to have lots more made-up at the tournament...and still not be able to bowl worth a crap! There is no-one around today that can hold a candle to greats Verapapa, Salvino, Anthony, etc. Although I have great respect for Dick Webber, that loser son of his should be banned from the pros, along with the other notorious "McEnroe" of bowling, Marshall Holman, who I personally saw booed out of Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson by the entire spectator crowd. Another favorite of mine, pool. Whatever happened to the likes of "Fats", Crane, Masconi, etc, etc...carefree street-wise hustlers who also put on a "show" at the table! I was watching an ESPN tournament Sat...the commentators where talking about the immense complexity of otherwise simple shots that the hustlers of years ago would not think twice about! The players are all serious and quiet/intense...and they still screwed-up big time! Commentators! Someone PLEASE super-glue, staple or sew John Maddens lips shut! Cossel was another pain in the WAHOO! College sports! The immense popularity of the Lute Olsen and the AZ Wildcats in Tucson! Our state government in in a defecit, and our economy could be better. All three AZ public university just had record-setting tuition increases starting this semester. Not enough money for programs, faculty and the like. But a dumb-ass jock coach is the highest paid state employee. This jock coach gets close to a $50k bonus if all his athletes maintain minimum academic standards! Basketball...don't even get me going there! Dennis Rodman and freaks like that! Baseball...I hate the Yankees..or I should say Steinbrenner...one of the worst things ever to happen to professional sports! Baseball players of today are a bunch of spoiled crybaby mult-millionares who go on strike! They are sooo taken advantage of....GET REAL! Seriously, I think some people, wont mention Will's name, condemn an entire sport based on one particular athlete or team. Like the Yankees or Dennis Rodman. They dont represent the entire field. What about athletes who inspire people, like Michael Jordan, or teams that people will watch just because its that team, like the Dallas Cowboys. Not all athletes are bad. I am good luck for Ortiz. I must have seen almost all his big hits in the last 3 games and not much else in the game(I watched maybe 6 innings of the entire Red sox-yanks series and all after Yanks went up 3-0). I dont care what happens in the WS. Boring. Very good pitching from Pedro Martinez. A few heads up defensive plays from the infield. Now all they have to win is just 1 out of 4 possible games. If they lose the next four, there definitely is a curse at work. I doubt if any Red Sox fans would really want their team to chance it by blowing the next two games just so they can win in Boston. I think they would all be just as happy if the Red Sox win 1 of the next 2 in St. Louis.
