Do not include the tips in the calculation. Base only on the amount pre-tip.

Pre-tax. Net amount times __% = tip.
(I think that attempt at a formula is right)

It's easiest for me to take the most significant digits of the total $ amount and divide by 10 then double it...(20%).

If the waiter is *REALLY* hhot and friendly 50% or more! (Gosh! I'm sooooo shallow!)

If the service is lousy, 1-10% of the total at the most. Sometimes less than a $1.00...if I don't plan to go back so as to avoid the spit and/or pee on my food thingie!

That'll learn 'em! [Wink]

A friend and I were in the Hooters at Fargo, ND last year. We had the nicest waitress, she was very pleasant (and good to look at, goes without saying). BUT, the kitchen screwed up our order. First they "forgot" to get it started, then when it did arrive, my fries were missing and my friend's sandwich was wrong.

Well, my friend was a jerk to the waitress about the whole thing, being demeaning to her and all. I, on the other hand was as nice as I could be to her through the whole ordeal, because I knew it wasn't her fault and on top of it I felt sorry for her having to put up with my friend's jerk-ness. She said she would "comp" us a round of drinks because of the hassle. When the bill came, she had comped the round all right, but she had also comped MY entire meal and drinks! So needless to say she got a very nice tip from me.

Nah. She was about 20, and I'm 51 and therefore invisible to her. (Not that I wouldn't have wanted to!!)

Mike, at least you realize the girls aren't looking, I have a friend who's 60 and a little more homely than average and thinks the 20 something women are still looking.
