His knowledge, and his desire to help were a very big plus for this site. It is the saddest one I have ever made on this site and is done after much thought. I have delayed long enough. I had the pleasure to speak with John on the phone on several occasions, and wish that our paths had crossed at least once so that I would have had the opportunity to meet him in person. He was a gracious man, who was generous with his time in helping others with their problems. We give thanks to the Pytlak family for allowing us to share the precious time he had. The measure of a man is what he leaves to others, and John left so much. To John's family, I can only say that the many good memories you have of him can never be erased. A close friend of my wife committed suicide the same day that John passed away, and my attentions have been there, until now. I knew it was coming, but didn't want to accept that it was coming. I am finding it nearly impossible to find the words to say as the tears are streaming down my face. I never had a chance to talk with him in person or over the phone, but I have used the internet, both here on this site and in email to converse with him regularly. We talked a lot on politics, film and movies, and whatever I needed to pick his brain for. He was always there to help anyone. I know that we are not supposed to get religeous, but I have to say that whatever higher power is up there, they got a hell of a great guy, and the rest of the planet earth got screwed, and it isn't fair. It never is. My condolonces to your family from mine, as they also are very familiar with John, as I always talked about "John from Kodak" as if we went to school together and were buds for life. I think that is how all of us feel, because that was his nature. I know most of us could never get to new york for this saturday, so we should dedicate next years FilmTech night at showest for John, as our own memorial for him. I think it would be the right thing to do. Godspeed John, I miss you. Take care of all those films up there that have died and gone to film heaven. Take care John's family. I think we all here know just how much harder it is for you when you see us going on like we are. We just miss him so much, and I know you do to. My love to everyone... Saw John only mad once, when they did the first major demo of DLP versus film at ShoWest. While on the equipment design end, I did contact him many times for technical advice, and during those wonderful days when film changed to polyester, and all of us platter manufacturers were pulling our hair out with brain wraps, sticking film, and feed problems. John worked with us on the issues of static and other properties of the new film. With his input, we all made it through. Thanks for being there....
