Here they don't even bother with the sidewalks... ever. In Lakewood Colorado we have exactly 2 snow plows and when it does snow you will see one (or both if you're lucky) driving around. Everywhere they go they drive with the blade UP. After every snowstorm they're out with three machines -- a small tractor with a giant rotary brush on the front to sweep the snow off of the sidewalks and onto the street, a road grader right behind that to push the snow into a hump in the middle of the street, and a machine that looks like a giant prehistoric anteater that picks up the hump and loads it into trucks. If it's icy they follow that up with a truck-mounted gravel spreading machine. And if it's REALLY icy they also gravel the sidewalks by hand -- two men with spades walking beside a front end loader with a bucket full of gravel. They try to do the snow removal at night when there's no traffic so after a snowfall I usually hear a lot of revving and beeep-beeep-beeep out front at around 4am. I've never seen anywhere else that's as on top of snow removal as this town is. I'm sure it costs a bundle but we can get a huge amount of snow some years and everyone thinks it's worth it.  |  IP: Logged Mike Blakesley Film God Posts: 12767 From: Forsyth, Montana Registered: Jun 99 posted 12-29-2011 11:11 AM                        I was thinking maybe the snowplow drivers in the video were doing a training exercise or strategizing for when the real thing happens. Even though there is a less than average amount of snow so far this year (apparently none in Montreal according to that video) they still have to put in those hours in order to get paid.
