It gets about 28 mpg average and I continue to be surprised and happy with how much power it has in the mountains. Unbelievable traction and very good road handling. I've lived up here for 38 years and have been stuck in the snow maybe twice, back in the '70s. I'm told that 14% of the cars registered in San Miguel County, CO, are Subarus (there's snow and ice on our roads at least six months a year). But it still blows my mind that there are so many of these sold in places like Florida and Arizona where you'd think that AWD would not be much of a bonus.  |  IP: Logged Paul Mayer Oh get out of it Melvin, before it pulls you under! Posts: 3836 From: Albuquerque, NM Registered: Feb 2000 posted 02-03-2011 12:17 PM                        Since 2008, a 1989 Toyoda pickup - I think it's an SR but it was repainted years ago so none of the original paint is visible. 4WD fuel-injected V6 with 243,000 miles on it. It's been a good truck but I don't take it for any drives outside of the valley these days. Looking for a newer car, perhaps a recent Ford Focus (good car name for a projectionist/technician) or maybe something like a Honda Civic if I can find one I can afford. Only two previous cars I've owned were a '68 VW Type I (1973-1995, 265,000 miles), and a '86 Mazda 626 (1995-2002, 108,000 miles)... Cars, even used ones, are very expensive to own and operate - I tend to take very good care of mine, but I drive them into the ground.  |  IP: Logged Sam D. It runs well and has not required very much beyond the scheduled maintenance since I bought it. It is a boring car, but it reliably gets me where I need to go. It is the least expensive car to maintain that I have owned. I expect to keep it at least until 150k miles and longer if maintenance costs remain reasonable. Vortec 5300 engine (5.3L 327 cu.in. V8). 63,000 miles on it. Haven't had any significant problems with it. Great vehicle for a single guy. Too bad it failed here in NA. Thus two "DSM's" - a '90 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo for my fun freeway runner, and a '91 Mitsu Eclipse automatic for running around in town. That car was awesome. I would absolutely love to have a Scirocco. I'm so sad Volkswagen decided not to bring them back to the U.S. But I got lucky with the Sport Quattro. Also, two 1991 16 valve GLI's. 3.2 engine in my 2006 Quatro. Maybe going toward a new S4. I really should be driving a Buick at my age, but no can do. It`s nice to know someone has actually heard of one, if I mention it over hear, I have to produce documented evidence that they exist. Its an awesome car, with the most amazing gadgets, but the aircon is just superb, it produces extremely cold air, but you cant feel it coming out of the vents??? god knows how it works, sound system to die for,vibrating seats, the list goes on and on, one of the techs had to replace a wing mirror, i think that was in the region of £300, and the windscreen is triple glazed, thats a grand, staggering money.
