Had it for about four years and only ever drove a few hundred miles in that time, 300 of them in one day, this was more than I drove in all the rest of the time that I had it. I hated driving, only ever did it because Mother wanted taking to various places occasionally, and when the car expired just a few months before she did, in 1982 I stopped driving, and will never do so again. I'm lucky in that my job doesn't need me to drive, I don't have a family that need taking anywhere, and I live in London, where there are plenty of buses, so I don't need to drive.  |  IP: Logged Richard P. As imagined the 2.8 gets less mpg because of the larger displacement. I'm getting about 15 mpg with one of my Audi's which has that same 2.8. But you should have gone with a VW TDI. Better mpg and when it comes time to service your Prius, you will see that they really aren't that green. In a monetary sort of way. I do some work on the side at a local shop certified to work on the Prius, and not a single piece of the drive train is inexpensive. That's the down side to hybrids. They are costly to maintain, and diesel engines like in the VW are said to not even be fully broken in until 150,000 miles, and with routine maintenance like oil changes, air filters, and spark plugs they will last forever.  |  IP: Logged Sam D. I don't measure all that carefully, but it's around 22 to 26 highway and maybe 18 to 20 mpg or so in city and mixed driving. I also have a 2.0 turbo A3, manual transmission and it's quite good at low 20's in mixed driving and amazing 27 to 30 in highway driving. Its my hobby and all are paid for so I do not see a problem with it. I do agree that it can be time consuming to keep up on maintenance.  |  IP: Logged Sam D. My first car that I still have 15 years later is my 65 Mustang Coup. Has the original straight six engine with less than 100,000 miles on it.
