Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 11-04-2018 05:37 PM                     "Abandon in-place" was VERY common. Why pay to remove it? Nobody is going to be in the booth anyway. Many of our customers set up one system in the lobby as a display. If their platter had aluminum decks, we recommended that they remove them and head to a recycle center. All-aluminum would fetch some good money during the years of DCP conversion and a platter deck is low-hanging fruit (easy to remove and many are all aluminum). Conversely, a projector head is never cost effective to strip the bits and pieces out to get it to all aluminum (Simplex or Century)...you'll get about $5 for the head as mix-metal and maybe $10 for all aluminum but it will take you more than an hour to get it to that point. Even the rectifiers, we tried various ways to get them down to copper, iron and steel...there was never a cost effective way (we band sawed the windings off...you name it). With consoles...almost all were just abandoned in the booth. Who wants to get hurt or pay someone to throw away "junk?"  |  IP: Logged
