Christan said: Microtecnica Mignon Microcine 35
They look like the best designed portables from Italy, but I never saw them except at Photokina in the 1980s. Maybe because they were also the most expensive portables!

My portable is a Microcine Mignon 35. All in all it's a great machine considering its size. My only real beef is that the motors don't really have enough umph and when running 6K reels you tend to wind up with a very loose wind that requires careful rewinding...then again, I guess it might just be that the motors on my machine are getting a bit tired (I don't use it a lot these days since my Vic 4 is working like a charm) I've also had the pleasure of visiting Microcine at their workshop in Bologna and they're very nice people indeed [Smile]

The new Kinoton FP30D in my screen two is now a little more than one week old, -the turret is gone, and single lens holder for 1,37 - 1,66 - 1,85 and 2,39 are now in use instead. This - plus getting used to something new, as You guys told me, did it: I can see, what i'm doing; the quick-chance is really quick, and the picture so rock-steady ! Those of You, who have seen the Malling Bio pictures with the amputated Victoria 9 (without collumn) may understand, that the very small box now really feels crowded. I'll have to borrow a very short lens to get pictures to show You.
Now, let's get the FP30 bill paid, and sell some tickets to pay for some Dolby Digital for the small screen too as next thing to come, followed by new norvegian "Skeie" seats. DTS and CP65 are already there, but as somebody mentioned in another post lately, not many of the "narrow" titles, running in the smallest screen come with dts.

Gordon,

how could I forget the Veronese. It is somewhat crude, too, but it performs fine. [thumbsup]

You said that the Wassmann is almost indestructible. OK, but older film prints are not. [Wink] I would never run a valuable print through a Wassmann.

TO wassnan's credit we did a two projector 3d set up with the eurokino3570c's and averaged about 2800 passes on each 70mm print before replacement
We also put one of the portables with a 4K KTV Ernamann lamphouse on the back of it in a special venue in a pit in the floor projecting a loop of film onto the ceiling of a cloud field and approaching storm that ran about 1100 passes per copy (that was acetate as well) using a ganzt loop table not a bad record
Also for years the Eatons centre cineplex n toronto had Microcine 35mm portables with 500w xenon running in there rear projection screens day in day out

I seem to have collected a lot of them

Actually you probably have the majority of them that were ever made....... but Daryl is right, they are VERY obsolete now. We have the few remaining parts for them left in the U.S., My Boss was the Westrex service tech for the states way back. There are actually two 5000's(35mm only) still running in Wendover, Nevada... or is that Wendover, Utah, perhaps there's one machine in each state...... [Roll Eyes] . Come to think of it the state line divides that town in half.... It would be a great place for an X rated drive in..... or show family fare on the screen in Utah and all the girly films on the Nevada side...... Now that puts a new meaning to the term "dual purpose" [Big Grin] .

Those 5000's days are numbered but they will make an impressive display machine in that theatre's lobby.

Gord, why don't you stop by on the way back to the frozen north after Showorst and take all the remaining spares we have for them...... We need the shelf space in the parts room for parts that actually sell [thumbsup]

Ahh Wendover, If I could find work out there I would move out on the old airbase in an instant.

My favorite machines are...
Norelco AAII, FP23

I enjoy working on these...
*Simplex XL (I especially like the high speed intermittents)
*Century (Any with a double shutter and direct drive)

My least liked...
Pro 35. (Copied and ruined all the great aspects of the FP23)
Cinnemeccanica V5

Brant,

It'd just be you and a dozen tumbleweeds living there..... Fortunately they haven't razed the Enola Gay's hanger but you know those Mormons never save any building thats very old! We don't even have a decent old movie theatre in SLC! Too bad the base isn't in Nevada instead... were it there I think that by now it would be a real museum.

Wendover proper is the most boring place on earth... but whats around Wendover..... now there's some neato stuff to explore!

Black XL & direct drive Century
Black Simplex = great intermittent parts. The rest = pure crap. EXTREMELY porus and very inconsistant and unbelievably thin main castings, old rubber shock mounted gearing that falls apart in the oil over the years.! They generally leak alot of oil aside from not holding enough oil to begin with.

Direct drive Century = Much higher wow and flutter. Standard drive version = lower W&F. The rest is ok though.

Just had to jab ya there Louis..... [Big Grin]
