I could have used one more good year of fundraising to manage to cough up the cost of a good used machine. We changed the way we do business in a controversial way and it was a huge financial success! My problem is, I should have started 3 years ago and I would be there by now. We lost a very few movies this year to not being on digital. However, the loss of a movie or two would never be enough to pay for digitals upkeep! Good to see you too. We stopped the Flood out outside FOOD! Food sales jumped 40 percent and pop sales tripled. Our food sales averaged 90 to 110 percent of ticket sales. I used to average 55 percent. We also source the best we can, cook fresh and charge accordingly. That said, our equipment (which I am about to replace and add to) was limited, and you may recall that we are not always at the theatre (my now college aged daughter as well as a couple other very good people mostly run things), and so thus far we've had a fairly basic menu, and we keep things very, very clean. I would say your 50%-ish of tickets is right in our ballpark. But without stirring up any of the old "outside food" debates, I'm betting we as owners are the most squeamish about raising prices or establishing these policies and I often think that we'll eventually at least post some "no outside food" signage. Do you offer a "permit" or do any "enforcement"? I don't see a real downside, I never thought we made any money off the cheapskates who really would have a problem, and really what I would expect is that these things end up convincing the garden-variety people who still sneak a little in to realize the importance of buying some on site as well. But either way, right now I'm looking at what type(s) of food equipment to replace the old char-grill with that would let us expand our offering a bit while not slowing us down at the rush. But I wonder if the list is different for Europe and the US. Because at least two of the titles on the list - Hotel Trans 2 and Peanuts - I was told by the studios reps that there were no 35mm prints made. I do not believe there were any 35mm prints in the USA for either Peanuts or The Martian, but there could have been some internationally. In the case of Star Wars, you could probably count on one hand the number of 35mm prints, although nobody at Disney is either willing or able to answer how many actual prints there are.  |  IP: Logged Leo Enticknap Film God Posts: 7474 From: Loma Linda, CA Registered: Jul 2000 posted 01-10-2016 09:04 PM                        Just seen that Son of Saul got the foreign language Golden Globe - its director pushed for a 35mm release, and many of the festival and other pre-release gala screenings were done on film at his request. It's probably also the first new film to be shot in 1.37 (all the way through - I'm discounting The Grand Budapest Hotel, because it includes shots in three different ratios, although the bulk of the footage is 1.37) to win a major award in many years.  |  IP: Logged
