The Arclight 70mm runs closed after 2 weeks. If you didn't look at their website, you'd never have found out that it was 70mm. Some of those locations will never make back the print cost. I think it has more to do with jerking off Christopher Nolan by showing him there were 20 prints of Batman V Superman in circulation. Even though those locations were some of the lowest grossing theatres in the country, since they have not converted to digital. It certainly was not about making a profit. How many of those 35mm BvS locations had access to a digital projector, but showed it on 35mm by choice? That includes 1 daily showing of Heart of the Sea. That film opened December 11th 2015 and tanked. Box Office Mojo stopped tracking it February 12th. And it is still playing. Do you think they sold 1 ticket to that film in the last month? The theatre is still showing Mad Max but I can understand somebody wanting to catch that on the big screen. I appreciate that Pacific is keeping the place open and that the place still projects film but why are they doing so? It has to be a money loser. Is it just to keep a competitor out of the neighborhood?  |  IP: Logged Shawn M. Fandango and Google have zero listings for any shows at the Sherman Oaks 5 tomorrow. And for today's listing it appears only 4 screens are operating. Is it closing? Even if they kill off 35mm releases in the US, I highly doubt it will be gone globally. Fandango only list showtimes through Sunday. And....Heart of the Sea has finally reached the end of its run at the SO5. Although I paid to have Fury Road shipped up from LA to play it in 35mm. This was after the initial run on DCP. It was worth it.
