That's kind of cool to see how film shipping and prints look these days compared to our final film days in 2010.

I didn't think of it till I saw your comment, Mike, but it seems that now,
almost every print I get is shipped in new, or almost new "real" reel
shipping cases, and not those horrible plastified corrugated box-things
they were using for the last decade or so.

Also, I notice most of them are on actual plastic reels, and not those
super cheap split-reels a lot of the studios were using for a long time.

I have no idea who made this print, since I could not find any lab ID
info anywhere on the print or leaders.

The only negative (no pun intended) thing I've noticed is that on the
last two prints I've received, whoever packaged them was really cheap
on the amount of tape they used to hold down the ends of the film leaders.
My last two features, but especially this one, arrived with the leaders
loose and badly intertangled inside the cans.

It took a bit of careful effort to extract and untangle them without
doing any damage.

. . . now, if only they'd go back to using paper reel-bands....

With such a small number of prints to handle, I'm sure they take great care to make sure they are handled with as gently and professionally as possible. Especially considering those prints will likely play at multiple theatres and be in circulation for a much longer period of time.

Finally a bit of good local news: Sherman Oaks 5 is opening "Sing" in 35mm tomorrow. Nice to see they got a print, and got it on opening day. Bye bye to "Angry Birds" at last!

A couple weeks ago I actually emailed a guy at Fotokem and asked if they struck prints for these three movies (in 2012 I'd contacted him with a similar question about another movie). He still works there as far as I can tell.

Have yet to receive any response. Ignored, spam filter, new email address, Christmas break?

Don't know why a "prints" credit for the only US company still making prints in the US would be in a movie's crawl if they didn't make prints for it.

I wouldn't read too much into that - I see the DTS or Datasat logos in the end credits for movies that do not have DTS/Datasat soundtracks all the time. Some production companies are better than others about updating their order forms for the end credits rolls, and I think a lot of the title houses just have a stock end-of-credits block of graphics.

No matter what happen I will watch all the upcoming movies this year. [Smile]

Can't wait to see the Transformer and Spiderman. So many choices I'm so excited about that.

The New Beverly is screening "La La Land" in 35mm in attendance of the film maker.

The new Aki Kaurismäki movie "The other side of Hope" was shot and edited on film and will have it's world premiere in the competition of "Berlinale" (Berlin International Film Festival) - projected from a 35mm print.

It will actually premiere today in Finland. I will attend the 35mm screening today; there's another one tomorrow and a few more in the coming weeks, but the regular theatrical run will be digital.

I was pleasantly surprised that this got a 35mm release; that hasn't happened for a Finnish movie in a couple of years as far as I know, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it tonight.
