It's still playing at Sherman Oaks 5 (along with Secret Life of Pets of July 8, and Angry Birds - if anyone shows up for it - from May 20). And in case anyone is keeping score, Sherman Oaks 5 is still running the same 35mm prints as in September. I'm hoping they get a hold of one of those 35mm prints of "The Accountant". The equipment and installation cost would probably be no more than $15-20k, and though they might not be able to play the latest SMPTE DCPs, 99% of mainstream studio DCPs are still 2K Interop, which such equipment would cope with just fine. That would instantly mean that these screens would no longer be restricted to playing movies that are several months old and weren't even mega-blockbusters when new, and therefore that the conversion would probably pay for itself in a week or two. If this theatre is going to stay open for more than a month, I can't figure out why doing this wouldn't be profitable.  |  IP: Logged Frank B. Depending upon the lease, it is possible that any permanently installed equipment (which might or might not include projectors and sound systems) might become property of the building/landlord. Maybe it is cheaper for them just to lose money by not selling tickets than to lose more money by installing equipment permanently in a building where the lease will soon expire. I worked for at least one place where the owners were loathe to upgrade anything because the landlord would eventually end up owning it. But, yes, on the surface, it is hard to believe that this place is able to stay in business with so few titles to show. Shawn has reported three titles having this credit this year that have not received any reports from anyone having actually seen a print. These are Warcraft, The Finest Hours, and Zootopia. Can anyone confirm the existence of prints of these? Apart from those, these are the titles this year that are confirmed as having had prints. It's a significant drop from last year. But there's still four weeks to go of 2016 of course.
