Edit: I should add that both the Somerville and the Coolidge already have 70mm capability. Somerville would need UP70 lenses and the Coolidge would need lenses and DTS, but both of those venues would be easy to install. That familiar 70mm logo is also a registered trademark, although I don't know how owns it. Paramount Pictures? Dolby? It was mostly associated with Paramount movie advertising, but Fox used it very prominently in the campaign for Die Hard. Current advertising for The Hateful Eight has that "glorious" Ultra Panavision 70 logo on it instead.  |  IP: Logged Claude S. Ayakawa Film God Posts: 2738 From: Waipahu, Hawaii, USA Registered: Aug 2002 posted 10-20-2015 01:29 PM                        I do not know how many of you know this but at one time, Ultra Panavision 70 was marketed as Camera 65 by MGM when they shot the two movies in the process and released RAINTREE COUNTY in 1957 and BEN HUR in 1959. Because all commercial 70mm theatres were playing another large format film at the time, RAINTREE COUNTY was released only in 35mm. This is another pre-existing 70mm installation. I think a lot of venues are having conflicts with Starwars. We have a 4 week lock in out biggest house. Are they still using that? There are very few theaters that would have these lenses on hand, for this release theaters are going to be outfitted from a huge inventory of 70mm equipment, I would imagine that many of these screens haven't seen film projected there in a long time (if ever).  |  IP: Logged
