The city no longer have any now and I doubt any of our theatres will be set up to play HATEFUL 8 in 70mm because of a population of less than a million people on the island of Oahu which Honoluku is part of. I'm pretty concerned about all these regular multiplex theaters (lots of AMC sites for instance) that plan to show The Hateful Eight in 70mm. There's a strong possibility some of the theaters or even a lot of them will ruin their prints within the first few shows. Given some of the "digital is better" bias running through the industry I kind of wonder if some theaters will have prints set up to be ruined on purpose in order to make digital look better. Any proper response should point to incompetence in the projectionist. Back in the good 'ol days theaters managed to show 70mm without a hitch. BLS apparently has a couple hundred projectionists ready to roll with these showings. Some are experienced with handling 70mm and some in this group have come out of retirement. There's others with no experience who I assume BLS has trained and hopefully trained properly. For the Dallas-Fort Worth showings, if the 70mm shows are not booked in theaters where Brad and his crew can do the booth work I'm going to be very nervous about the safety of those film prints. I mean it's pretty damned pathetic when AMC's top theater in Dallas (their Northpark 15 location) shredded a 35mm film print of Interstellar in the very first show.  |  IP: Logged Stephan Shelley Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 854 From: castro valley, CA, usa Registered: Nov 2014 posted 11-19-2015 02:19 PM                     Besides the Grand Lake in Oakland CA, Kabuki San Francisco and AMC Mikado, Santa Clara. Several Cinemark theatres in the San Francisco Bay Area including Pleasant Hill, San Francisco Center, Mountain View, San Jose and Union City. They are all getting 70mm equipment packages from BL&S. Cienmark gets Cinemachanica V8s. The rest Century JJs. As far as I know projectionist are not included. At the Grand Lake, the lens setup shown above did not work as with AA Norelco's the lens sits so far back the porthole cropped the sides of the image. Solution is to add the 1.25x adapter to our existing 70mm lens setup.We use a 4" lens barrel prime with a 4" magnicom in front. I was able to collapse the magnicom enough to get the right size image.
