One thing I'd like to point out is that this hasn't been Quentin's first non-DI, as that was standard before the mid-2000s.
The ratio of DI:Photochemical cut neg. reached parity around 2005, I think.
You can tell from the credits that it's cut neg. because there are credited negative cutters, and I think the credit was flatbed editor something like that.
They specifically mentioned and specified editing being done with worprints, and I think there was a credit for dailies and workprint printing as well.
I'm pretty sure they took the master positive and scanned that for the DCI. Well over 4K on 70mm, so no problems or quality loss there, and substantially-easier, practically non-existent color correction when you are scanning a timed positive.
@Tyler Purcell: MY understanding is that the only digital was added in. Film scanned in, manipulated, lasered back out onto film, then cut into the non-digital original camera negatives in A and B rolls.
Agreed, "Nolan approach."
Anyone else notice the negative scratch on a few frames (sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! ;-) ) and the camera timing misalignment on the fire?
I thought it was on the print at first, but then I noticed the slight projector weave was the opposite of that shot.
As to analog sound, yeah, looks like the infrastructure has crumbled. What a shame they couldn't have done a proper analog stereo track.
To be honest, digital sound has gotten so good, the difference has really been lost, i.e., not night and day like film and digital.

The Village East Cinema ran H8 in 70mm last winter. Now, according to their web site, they are running the Digital Roadshow version.

I've always said: "Sooner or later, EVERYTHING shows up on e-bay";
so, keeping that in mind- - check out this listing I spotted online:
. . . and you know they're authentic, because the description says:
"All film cell are genuine-authentic, actually used in movie theatres.
Some film cells may have run lines, scratches, mild abrasions, colour
fade and sometimes even traces of lubricant from a film projector"

Just for fun, I did some math:
A 70mm print of "Hateful 8" contains 240,480frames.(not counting the
intermission. (who would want to buy abuncha blank/black frames?)
If this guy cuts a print into 3 frame clips like in the photo above, and
sells them all, he could potentially make over $80,000. But I seriously
doubt he'll sell more than few of these - - - - if any at all.
