He kind of picked up on the George Strait kind of modern country music and sold it far more effectively. I think the only other music performer just as good (or even better) at the music marketing angle is Madonna. At the same time, I kind of hate how guys like Garth Brooks have changed country music. It's all about the marketing and how the stars look anymore. I think a lot of acts go into country because it's not as hard to break into as mainstream or pop (or, at least that's their perception). This results in artists like Garth Brooks and The Dixie Chicks, who would much rather be making rock and roll records - and evidenced by the sound of their "country" songs. After all, how country can you be when your favorite group is KISS (Garth's favorite)?  |  IP: Logged Sam D. I watched the Blu-ray version of The Last Waltz last night (it was one of the freebie discs I finally got in the mail for my PS3 purchase). That concert had an amazing collection of rock and blues talent on stage. And a lot of those now legendary performers wouldn't get the time of day from a modern record company if they were unknown acts today. I think even Eric Clapton would have a difficult time breaking through if he was just some 20 year old guy today. That's how bad I think the situation has become. Sorry about contributing to the thread drift. People with talent are passed over for people that are controversial good music is butchered in remixes to have stupid rap jabbed in it. Music has become a game of prostitution of the artist in lot of ways. Would Reba McIntyre be able to make it now? I don't know and I think she is one of the greatest female CW stars of all time. I've seen him twice... the first time by mistake in Ogden, Utaw... but what a performance... went and saw him another tme too. The fiddler they have is absolutely amazing! By far the best Country band to go see. I think you MEANT to say Barf Brooks... Thats what he is known as in this part of the world. I agree Ron... Dwight Yokum is actually pretty old stuff now... but good stuff.
