Aaron said, "All bypass does is run the Lt/Rt tracks straight thru to the R and L speakers. No center, no surrounds."
Err, no. At least on the CP65, the optical preamp outputs for L and R (as well as mag) are summed, and fed to L,R,and C (and also hearing-impaired), with the surround grounded. See this handy excerpt from the CP65 signal chart:

This whole fiasco (which occurred via email) was about the new Solondz film Palindromes. It's about an adolescent girl who wants to have a baby, and while there are two or three sex scenes involving underaged actors, there is no nudity and it is not intended to be arousing in any way. It's very awkward and offputting, as intended, and very brief as well. Here's the conversation:
--------- Dear General Manager,
I went to see the movie "Palindromes," which is at your theater at the present time in Cary, NC and usually go at least once every week. I thought I was watching child pornography. This type of movie is NOT considered art. If I EVER see a movie like this at your theater again, I will NEVER enter your doors. If I want to see a movie where 13-14 year olds are going at it every few minutes, I'll watch it on-line. I'm 40 something (in your target audience), and am studying to be a counselor for abused children, so I know extortion and abuse when I see it.
As you know, one e-mail represents MANY, so please take this to heart or you might find your profits decreasing. -------------
First of all, I'm going to repeat this sentence because I find it HILARIOUS.
"If I want to see a movie where 13-14 year olds are going at it every few minutes, I'll watch it on-line."
Moving on.
Of course, I wanted to explain that she was thinking about "exploitation" and not "extortion", but, you know, customer service and whatnot.
My response: ----------- We am very sorry that you were offended by the film. From time to time, we recieve films with sensetive subject matter that may offend some of our customers. If you are unsure about a film, we recommend asking the staff who can provide you with a film description. We also have literature in the lobby on most of our films.
I have left two complimentary passes in your name in our box office, so the next time you come the movie's on us. Once again, we apologize that you found the film offensive. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know. We appreciate your business.
Jon Morgan General Manager --------------
So I sent that a few days ago, and I guess I thought it was taken care of.
Alas! Today, I received this reply: ---------------- Dear Jon,
If what you are telling me is that you will continue to have subject matter that is offensive to MOST of American society, than NO THANKS. I'll find another independent theater in which to give my business. -------
I don't see much point in replying again. I could point out that it's played at most of the other theaters in the area, or that it received a glowing review in the local paper, or that out of the mass of people who have seen it she is the sole complaintant. I dunno, though. I guess I'll just leave this one be.
