I hardly know anyone outside of projection who notices changeover cues
I thought that thanks to Fight Club, everyone knows about the 'cigarette burns'(thanks also, FC for calling cue marks that to make things worse) now... [fu]

I agree with Anslem on this one. I am a movie credit watcher myself. If somebody came and asked me to "stand over there," I would be irritated. I have paid to watch the whole movie, and that includes the credits if I so desire. We tell our staff not to start cleaning until everyone is out.

Usualy we wait for everyone to leave the theater, but if we have to clean a theater quick we'll start removing popcorn bags and cups before everyone is out, and we'll sweep up the rows behind the farthest person left in the theater so we don't block their view of the screen. I had to yell at a former employee who was trying to sweep up a pile of popcorn standing directly in front of a customer's view of the screen, than she started to argue with me about it. The only time we ever ask a customer to move is when the film is all done, but they still refuse to leave because they feel like discussing the film when we need to clean to seat for the next showing.

This I have no problem with. I have politely let people know that we have people waiting outside for the next show, but if they would like to stick around and discuss the movie we have plenty of seating available in the coffee house in our lobby which they are more than welcome to enjoy!

Thanks to Fight Club, people also think they still make porn on 35mm, and it's rather easy to get ahold of.

I've also mentioned before that I am one of the few people who sits throughout the entire credits to see if there is anything on the end. I sometimes ask the cleaners if there's anything worth waiting for while they're cleaning around me, and often they don't know! I wonder how many other customers ask that?
The only time I remember having that happen was we had some movie in a series and the previous one had an extra scene.

Speaking of "projector tuning"...
We were running Raging Bull in early 1981 when a customer came out of the auditorium asking when the color was going to be turned on.

I have had that happen before and I also had someone come out and say there was a problem with the color on a movie, can't remember the title, that had color credits over black and white scenes.

Thomas, you say, "At VUE Sheffield, they now have allocated seating. Even though there are big signs on all the auditorium doors saying they have allocated seating, people still come in and sit wherever they like! Also, despite having a big sign above the ticket ATMs saying "If you buy tickets here, your seat will be allocated automatically" they still complain that they can't choose where they want to sit!"

So if I put up big signs that say, "WARNING: This theatre has crummy service," I shouldn't expect customers to complain when the crummy service makes itself apparent? [Confused]

I definitely agree with John on this.

Saying that people are stupid for complaining that they can't choose their seats when there's a sign pointing it to them is like saying that someone can't complain at a huge raise in concession prices because the signs tell them what the new, huge price is.

The people are complaining not because there wasn't something pointing this information out to them but because they want the policy changed back.

Looking at it from a customer's point of view, MOST movie theatres do not have reserved seating so I can see why the people would be mad at being told where to sit.

That said, it is true that many people don't bother to read signs and/or don't think signs apply to them.

I forgot what movie, but we had a dark one and someone came out and asked if we could adjust the color so they could see better.

Yep. Didn't matter how many signs we put up pointing to the bathrooms.

I even had someone, when my old theater was slow on weekdays and had the box station in the lobby, get mad and say "You should've put up a sign" to which I said "We already did." Though there was that ONE person who actually could read and came into the lobby on a Friday to get his tickets because the box person forgot to take it down from the previous day.

I won't wade through all 42 pages to see if these have been covered, but here are a few of my favorites.

The person who calls on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or any other holiday and asks "Are you open today?" Actually, we're closed, but I came down here on my day off just so I could answer the phone for you. I know this is a semi legitimate question, but at least cover yourself by asking how late we're open or something like that.

"The sign says 7:00, is that the correct time?" No sir, it actually started at 6:30, but we thought it would be fun to make everyone late.

"I checked the paper and listened to your recording, but I just wanted to make sure the movie is playing at 4:00". Actually, the movie ended last Tuesday. We just didn't bother to take it out of the listing.

Customer shows up 30 minutes late for the opening night of Iron Man, walks up to the window and orders a ticket. When told the movie started half an hour ago says "The web site said it started at 7:30". I'm sorry sir, but I've got 250 people in the auditorium who would disagree with you.

And the customer I absolutely hate is the guy who shows up 5 minutes after show time on the opening Saturday of the newest blockbuster. Then proceeds to drop $30.00 at the snack bar before going to find a seat. And then has the gall to get mad a me because he can't find a good seat.

There are plenty more, but those are the main ones that come to mind.

Them: I checked the paper yesterday and it said that this movie plays at 4:30
Me: Yesterday's newspaper shows yesterday's showtimes.
