Author Topic: Star Drek Anslem Rayburn Master Film Handler Posts: 476 From: Yuma, AZ, USA Registered: May 2002 posted 05-08-2009 02:39 AM                     I don't understand the point in advertising it opening May 8, then allowing it to show on May 7, but only at 7pm or later. This way, they can book the Thursday revenue as Friday revenue, thus making their Friday numbers look better. --jhawk  |  IP: Logged Carl Martin Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1424 From: Oakland, CA, USA Registered: Feb 2002 posted 05-08-2009 06:37 AM                        i don't see that it helps us much to have those ticket sales on thursday rather than friday. moving a print is certainly a hassle, as is having to bump showtimes for other films forward and backward for just one day to accomodate the studio's whim. i might feel different if they had planned it as a thursday opening all along, rather than making us scramble at the last minute. and not releasing the lock combo earlier than the morning of? that's bullshit. They're going to make the distiction between the Friday-to-Sunday numbers and the "first four days" numbers. They're also predicting a significantly lower number for the opening weekend than the number earned by Wolverine on its opening weekend. They're estimating about $3 million from Thursday and another $71 million for Friday-to-Sunday.  |  IP: Logged John T. Same thing happened with "Batman Begins." We have Trek booked for 5/22 and I'm excited -- people are actually asking about it, unlike the last one which did nothing for us.  |  IP: Logged John T. Word of mouth will bring out a lot of folks who are not regular moviegoers, but play pick and choose on the basis of what others tell them. Then they show up five or six times a year. They are not the types to rely on hype and reviews, and they certainly don't go to a picture on opening week. Not to downplay it, but media advertising only goes so far. The infrequents come out after they "get it" that the movie is a really good one. Mike, you should be in great shape playing it on Memorial Day weekend.
