Come to think of it, I don't think a single one does. [Big Grin]

Of course one only has to step but a few yards past the boxoffice to be on the casino floor at most of these places. And with the casino as landlord I'm sure the theatre has to sign a non-compete for gaming.

Even in the few remaining standalone places I imagine even a restricted gaming license (limit of six machines, similar to what every 7-11 in town has) would be hard to obtain. Movie theatres are seen as kid and teen magnets and thus I assume they wouldn't readily be approved for any kind of gaming license.

The Marquee Marketplace 14 in Irving, TX (Dallas area) closed in early December. This is the second time that this theatre has closed. This theatre originally opened in September 1999 as the United Artist Marketplace 14. It closed in June 2003 after United Artist was brought out by Regal Cinemas.

It reopened in February 2004 when Marquee Cinemas brought the theatre. They installed new seats and all new sound system. However the theatre has now closed again. It's in a bad location which is probably one of the reasons that it has struggled. Along with inconsistent quality of presentation and most notably fierce competition from AMC Grand 24 (the original stadium seating multiplex in the USA) and the AMC 30 Grapevine Mills.

As for openings, AMC has opened their first free standing theatre in the Dallas area since 1998. The AMC Firewheel 18 in Garland opened December 14th. The interior of the theatre is very similar to the AMC Valley View Mall 16 which opened May 2004. AMC is also scheduled to open a 15 screen theatre at North Park Mall in April 2006. This theatre is said to have the two largest screens in Texas. I don't know if that means that it will eclipse the two 78 ft screens at the United Artists Galaxy 9 in Dallas.

Cinemark just opened a 12 screen theatre in Rockwall, Texas (outside of Dallas) in October and they are scheduled to open 2 more in the Dallas area in 2006 with the opening of Cinemark 16 in Allen, Texas (very close to their well performing discounted priced first run theatre) the Movies 14 in McKinney, Texas and the company's top revenue grossing theatre Cinemark Legacy in Plano. The new Cinemark 16 in Allen is scheduled to open in May 2006 and Cinemark is also building a 15 screen stadium seating theatre to the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville. This mall already has an exsisting Cinemark Movies 12. It's scheduled to be open by August 2006. My assumption is that this theatre will either close and become more retail space or become a dollar theatre. However Cinemark currently owns an 8 screen dollar theatre across from the mall.

Well, I'm not holding my breath for this new AMC site to even hold a candle to the previous theater that stood there, the GCC Northpark 1-2.

The ultra bland UA Crossbay II, a seven plex closed on Jan 2. (The Crossbay I, a triplex, closed earlier this year--edit late last year). This theatre opened in the early 90's, and will not be missed too much according to a newspaper article. Regal is opening a new theatre at the Atlas Park development in Queens not too far away in the spring anyway. I will try to get a pic.

Entertainment Cinemas remodeled and reopened the South Dennis 12 into a 10 screen with stadium seating and digital sound...

They are also planning on putting a theatre into a historic building in Ipswich, Ma.

And rumor has it that the Loews Freshpond Mall 1-10 in Cambridge, Ma is closing in two about two weeks. This was originally a GCC Twin that was converted to a ten screen by Entertainment Cinemas then operated by Loews. RIP

Also the AMC Fenway 13 (Built by GCC with the GCC Booth package Cinemeccanica Lamp Houses and V5's) will be closing as a condition of the LCE, AMC merger. AMC Will be keeping the Boston Common 19.

just a quick correction, I work at the AMC Fenway 13 and we have Strong consoles and platters, with cinemeccanica V5 projector heads. Also we will not be closing, from what I hear anyways. They've basically told us someone else (i.e. another chain) is probably coming in...who knows though...

There's no way that Fenway will close. That would defeat the purpose of the antitrust agreement, anyway. Someone will buy it.

Does anyone know whether AMC plans to keep Chestnut Hill? There was some talk that they might sell it to Boston Concession Group, but that was a while ago and nothing seems to have happened since.

I don't know if they are going to sell C-Hill, but it was a dump last time I was there (worked the Joey Fund Charity Event). Can't possibly see AMC making a huge profit in the area, though its main competition is the Circle Cinemas....that is to say...neither theatre is gonna be expecting huge attendence anyways

The Fontana 6 in Tulsa was closed when I drove by in mid December. It had been limping along as a dollar house for many years.

Also last I knew the theatre in Eastland Mall was closed as well. This one was built as a top of the line GCC theatre in 86. Horrible location though. No street level entrance. You had to go downstairs to the mall food court. The rest of the mall is pretty much dead too.

my mistake I was mis informed that the fenway had the usual GCC package. Of course someone else will most likely take over the Fenway... most likely one of 2 circuits...

That area of SE Cleveland has always been odd. From what I have heard is that Cleveland Cinemas has picked up business at the Solon Commons? I always thought that site would shut down since it's in the middle of an industrial park, and not close to any shopping & resturants. (unless you consider KFC a resturant)
