The AMC Tustin 14 theater in The District at Tustin Legacy retail center opens to the public June 27.
The center is at Jamboree Road and Barranca Parkway, just over Irvine's border in the former Marine Corps helicopter base. Currently, there are four Edwards complexes but no AMC theaters in Irvine.
All guests who visit the theater June 27-July 1 will receive a free small popcorn with each ticket purchased.
AMC Tustin 14, which is the entertainment anchor of The District, has four screens that are more than three stories high and 50 feet wide. The theater will open with "Live Free or Die Hard" and will show "Transformers" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in July.
The opening marks the first entertainment-only venue opening at The District, the million-square-foot outdoor shopping and entertainment complex. Current open tenants include Costco, Lucille's Barbeque, TJMaxx/Homegoods, Chick-Fil-A, Wells Fargo, Petco and Office Depot.
The theater has a fountain in its courtyard and a glass façade more than 30 feet high. AMC's signature design concepts will highlight the new theater, including high-mural celebrity graphics, directors' series photographs and a modern-day rendition of the red carpet. The theater will also be complete with tables and chairs and a gaming area in the lobby, the company stated.

•More than 3,000 seats
•Stadium seating with 18-inch risers and 48-inch row spacing for an unobstructed view
•Dolby Digital Surround EX in every auditorium
•Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall curved movie screens in every auditorium
•Closed Captioning, which emits a caption that hearing-impaired moviegoers can pick up with a device that slips into their cupholder; and Descriptive Video for moviegoers who are sight impaired.
•A gaming area with arcade games.

It's curtains for AMC theater

DAYTONA BEACH -- The only movie theater on the city's mainland will close this weekend, apparently just days ahead of the bulldozers.
Andy DiOrio, spokesman for AMC Entertainment Inc., said the company is pulling the plug on the AMC Volusia Square 8 cinema after the last show Sunday night.
Owen Brown, president of property owner Retail Planning Group, said the company plans to demolish the theater and three other storefronts to make way for a new appliance and electronics store.
"We already have our demolition permit," Brown said in a telephone interview from Atlanta. Workers are expected to start tearing down all of the storefronts west of the Bealls Outlet store. It is expected to take four to six weeks.
Once leveled, crews will build a 30,225 square foot building for hhgregg, an Indiana-base retailer that specializes in video products, brand name appliances, audio products and accessories. The company, which had net sales of $1.1 billion for fiscal year 2007, operates 79 stores in eight states and is now entering the Florida market. The new store should be ready by next spring, according to Brown.
He noted Retail Planning already was in the midst of updating the landscaping at Volusia Square. When AMC decided to leave, it paved the way for a wholesale renovation of the shopping center, including the buildings on the outparcels.
"We're trying to give it a more upscale look like we did across the street," he said, referring to Volusia Marketplace that opened last year.
DiOrio said AMC decided to shutter the theater at 2455 International Speedway Boulevard because it no longer fit their profile. "We continue to upgrade the quality of our theater circuit and that is one that has been identified as not competing effectively in that marketplace," he said about the theater, which opened in 1987.
The theater helped anchor one end of the shopping center, which is home to Toys R Us, Ross Dress for Less, TJ Maxx and The Home Depot.
He declined to comment on whether the company had plans to locate another theater in the area. "We don't talk about things like that," he said.
Brown said he wasn't surprised by AMC's decision given the age of the theater and the trend toward stadium seating.
"It would have been impossible to convert the existing theater to the bigger chairs. We don't have the room," he said.
Brown expects International Speedway Corp. will have a cinema at its planned Daytona Live! entertainment, retail and office complex.
