This isn't worthy of its own thread so I guess here is as good a place as any.
The local daily Register-Guard newspaper publishes an entertainment section on Friday. One of the features each week is "Best Place To..." This week it was Best Place to see a summer blockbuster...
Regal auditoriums truly blockbusters

Team Best of ... loves art house movie theaters with foreign films and popcorn dusted with nutritional yeast, but we believe there's a time and place for the mega- plex.
Just as we wouldn't want to see Federico Fellini's "8 1/2 " at the Gateway Mall, watching "Spiderman 7" in an 82-year-old, Spanish Mission-style theater that is supposedly haunted is just wrong.
Nothing says being an American like sitting down to a bad summer blockbuster with a $5 Coke and a one-gallon bucket of popcorn in your lap. We love the bright snack bar lights, the stadium seating, the enormous drink holders and the obnox- ious carpet in Day-Glo 1980s colors.
Truthfully, there wasn't much to compare, because there are only two super megaplexes in town. But we wanted to determine which of the facilities offered the best mainstream movie theater experience.
And at the risk of opening up another wound in the Eugene-Springfield debate, we'll just say Eugene's Regal Stadium 15 mopped the sticky candy-coated floors with Springfield's Cine- mark 17.
It isn't that Cinemark is bad or even that Regal is better. It's just that Eugene's theater is newer, and when it comes to blockbuster movies, newer is always better.
Why do you think they charge more for the new releases at the video store?
We went to the biggest auditorium inside the newest theater complex in town and found what we were looking for. Theaters No. 8 and No. 9 are basically identical. Both boast 424 raked seats with tons of leg room and air conditioning that would have made polar explorer Ernest Shackleton shiver.
We're sorry we cheated and entered both theaters on one ticket. But because the same movie was playing in both theaters ("The Simpsons"), we figure it's not really a crime of admission.
Although the theaters are clones, we chose theater No. 8 as our fave, just because. We thought briefly of picking a smaller 228-seat theater that houses Regal's lone digital projection system, but we're not really sure what that means for us, the viewer.
And besides, after stretching out in that big icebox, there's just no going back to one of the smaller iceboxes.
Our only complaint about the Regal complex is that the drinking fountains were harder to find than a clock inside a Las Vegas casino. Not surprisingly, the $4.25 bottle of filtered tap water at the concessions stand was quite easy to spot.
I guess we shouldn't be surprised. We know how these guys make their money. It sure isn't from shady newspaper reporters sneaking around from theater to theater on a single ticket.

Two more Michigan theaters are going to bite the dust soon. The Showcase Cinemas Flint East in Burton and Cinema 10 in Flint Township will be closing, according to WJRT-TV.

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) - (08/20/07)--Genesee County residents will soon have fewer choices to check out the latest movies. Monday, two local movie theaters announced they are shutting down.
The reason? Michigan's slow economy.
Showcase Cinemas Flint East in Burton and Cinema 10 in Flint Township will soon close their doors for good, leaving a total of about 60 employees to wonder what's next.
"I just heard. She just told me. It surprises me," said Ruth Hart.
Monday was probably one of the last times Hart will take her family to the movies at Burton's Showcase Cinemas East.
Before heading in to to see a show at Burton's Showcase Cinemas East, Hart learned the theater will shut down in about two weeks.
"When I visit I bring them to the theater because it's an outing for us. It's a shame," Hart said.
Moviegoers say they will miss the convenience the theater has provided for the past 26 years.
"What's nice is that they have these 14 different theaters you can go to so they offer a lot," said Miriam Martin.
"I'm really upset about that since I live so close to here. It's right down my street," said Nicole Bednard.
The owner of National Amusements says it will also close the Cinema 10 theater in Flint Township near the Genesee Valley Mall.
A spokesperson says employees have known for months that they planned on closing that location. The decision was made to close both of the theaters because they are not financially viable.
There about 27 people that work at Cinema 10, and 39 at Showcase Cinemas East.
A spokesperson issued a statement saying National Amusements is trying to place those employees in other areas of the company.
The Showcase theater in Burton will close Sept. 3. A date has not been set for Cinema 10, but the company says it will happen in the next few months.
