It couldn't withstand the competition pressure with the nearby multiplex theatre. Me and my father used to work there on two Philips FP6 (change-over). That was also the place, where I got in contact with projection stuff at the age of about 12. Furthermore, Parklichtspiele Radenthein (also in Carinthia) quit business in 2009 due to the lack of staff (no projectionist). A colleague of mine did open air cinema in Villach every summer. The Bright Leaf Drive-In Theatre in Mt. Airy, North Carolina closed up after 55 years of operation. I visited the site a couple of weeks ago... the screen was still standing as was the booth/concession stand. The speaker posts had been pulled as well as the wiring post to post. (probably to recover the wire, the theatre had gone to transmitted sound a number of years ago) What little information I can put together is the current operators lost their lease. The property is currently for sale, which makes me wonder... why didn't the operator work out a plan to purchase it? Rumors are abundant, but I won't go there for now. Just hated to see it go. The Opry Mills location was one of the biggest theatres in the Nashville area. Extensive damage in both locations. Some reports say there was close to 10 feet of water at certain points of the mall after the flood. It was reopened last summer but can't financially make it, according to the owners of the business. And now, the building's owners (different people) say they probably will not pay the taxes on it and the county may acquire it, so the townspeople are thinking of operating it as a community theater. Here's an article about the situation from the Sidney newspaper. Personally I think they blew it by not "twinning" the theatre. It has a nice large but nothing-special auditorium that would make two perfect smaller ones. In a town of 5000 people, that could have been golden. The retail company Forever 21 is taking over the space.
