My "favorite type of music" has slowly evolved over the years. Back in the 1980s, up until 1994, I mostly liked new "Top 40" music, and usually listened to new music more than anything, so up until then, I was primarily a 1980s and early 1990s music person. In 1994, a lot of new music came out that I didn't like and I started listening to a station that played 1960s to 1980s music primarily, and on Saturday nights, would play a 1950s and 1960s rock program. As I started buying 1950s and 1960s rock compilations that summer, 50s and 60s rock quickly became my favorite music type, and has been ever since.I currently have approximately one third of everything that hit the Billboard Top 100 from 1955 to 1990 in my collection (from buying CDs, not by downloading by Napster), and like music from all decades. I find some of the very recent (April and on) Top 40 music to be damned annoying to listen to, although in the past few years, have liked quite a few songs. I am one of the few guys that likes the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. I love 70s Disco. There is a lot from the 80s that I like. There are plenty of "classic rock" and "Southern rock" songs from the late 60s and 70s decade that I like too. My music taste is probably more well-rounded than most people's. At least it seems that way when I have friends over. For any given friend, I have things in my collection that they will like, regardless of their age and music preference, and I'll have something they'll totally hate as well.

I can stand most anything, I like rap, yet I also love Johnny Cash. Soundtracks don't do it for me, I just don't like compilation cds, when I listen, I want to hear everything that person did, not just their hit single, maybe I'm just kinda weird that way. But I will give you all a tip, you'll have to download it or else order it from England, but get some Group X, yes that's their name, the Arabian Rap Sensations. It's very good to turn on when you're around your friends, they'll be quite surprised and you'll look like a genius.

Although I like most kinds of music, (Rap isn't music) I am not that fond of Country. I am also bored by the insipid Classical music NPR plays just for filler every day. I don't need music to fill the quiet parts of my day.But one genre of music I have been interested in of late is World Beat. I like to listen to pop music influenced by other cultures. I like variety and eclecticism. And as you can tell, I like throwing around $2 words.  So you can usually find me lurking in the Soundtrack and International sections of the music store. I also like chics with guitars, especialy if there just a bit angry.

Standards, Swing, Big Band, Show Tunes, Early Rock and Roll, some Country/Western ( not the tear in the beer crap, etc!), Political Satire like the Capitol Steps, Comedy like Spike Jones, Dr. Demento, WOLF MAN JACK RULED AND STILL RULES, Old Russian/German/Polish/Hungarian/Slavic/Jewish Music

Debussy, Saint-Sans, & Mendelssohn piano compositions Many more, but, if the artist is really good, I'll listen (except for Rap, which, I agree, isn't really music. In order to be music it would have to have melody in addition to rhythm.)

Awwwww come on guys, although rap isn't my favorite type of music I do listen to it sometimes. Some rap is ok, it depends on what you're listening too and what you're in the mood for.**Yes Geoffrey, as you can see from my list above on a past posting I go primarily by artist rather than musical genre like you.**
