Yes, I agree with you when a thread like this can make one aware what a wonderful world we all live in and how awesome the internet is when I can post a topic or comment on my computer here in Hawaii and you and all of our other Film Tech friends in Europe can read it almost immediately on the other side of the world. (the biggest Island and smallest contentent the planet.) Too many Melbourne 'ites in the list for my liking so far. That place SUXS! (That should get some attention) Let one of them explain how a 'hook u turn' works, these guys are crazy. I got out of that state ASAP after being booked for Speeding (on the way BACK to NSW), Doing a hook turn wrong, almost being hit a train or tram or what ever they have running down the middle of the road while attempting a hook turn. Thanks for the road rules, pretty cool, but I AINT going back! - Kidding was'nt THAT bad. Possibly, it would have been wiser, to have known this stuff before hand. - Like at the state line 'DANGER you have just left NSW, hazard ahead in VIC if you dont know what a hook turn or tram is' !! In fact, we rented out a hotel room near the city and spent the week using trams and trains (love the "day pass tickets"?, can go ANY where all day on any public transport.) I'm talking 10 years ago, and Sydney is not even close to getting that sort of ticket sorted out. Plus the trams are cool, kicks the ass out of our lame Monorail and light-rail. My biggest grumble back then was that where no skyscapers that you could go up in and view the City and have lunch. (Like Centre Point Tower in Sydney) I've heard they now one or even a few buildings that cater for that now. Bill Bunch here from Misawa, Japan which is way up in snow country. Extreme northeast coastal area of the main island of Honshu. Home of some very respectble beers. Black label Sapporo Beer is the best. I am told they are decendents of German receipes that were brought in decades ago. My grand parents on my mother side came from near the area of Japan where you are, Nigata prefecture on the northwestern coast of Honshu. Here in Hawaii we have both Kirin and Sapporo Beer with sapporo being my favorite. The Japanese restaurant in my home town always serve a brew by Sapporo that is only available during the winter and it is an excellent beer. Niigata is a beautiful area of Japan. Probably the best grown rice crop anywhere hence they are famous for their sake brews as well. Alot has to do with the water there. Lots of snow in the winter too. Hawaii is our home away from home. We visit often as our daughter is stationed at MCBH Kaneohe. I think of your islands often while shoveling snow during the long winters here. My wife's roots are from southern Okinawa and I don't need to tell you how much "uchina" culture is in Hawaii.
