What would those guys say to singing concession items strutting down a red carpet?  |  IP: Logged Jim Cassedy Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1661 From: San Francisco, CA Registered: Dec 2006 posted 12-15-2007 09:17 PM                     Last year I was doing some rehibilitating of the equipment at a very old (1920's) theater in San Franciso's Chinatown which was operated by the Shaw Brothers in the 1970's who used it to showcase their own films as well as those from other Asian producers. They haven't run film there in almost 20 years. The theater is now maninly used for community meetings, Chinese operas, etc. One storeroom in the basement was full old equipment and of dozens of Chinese Martial Arts movies abandoned there almost 30 years ago. THIS IS ONE OF THEM A couple of my Chinese buddies translated the label for me and identified it "Shaolin Drunk Stick Fighters" which is a 1969 Hong Kong Kung-Fu Flick Unfortunately, after being in a dark, dank, damp Chinatown basement not far from the waterfront for almost 30 years, all the films have been destroyed by mold, which has actually eaten most of the emulsion off of them. This is one of the ones in "good" shape . Most were worse! I would not be surprised if many of those prints were in "Chineese I.B. Tech"... Die transfer in China was very common at one time. I'm old enough to have been working back in the '70's when a lot of these films were released in the US and practially all of them were IB. Given the amount of mold infestation on the several shipping cases I (carefully) opened for inspection I decided it was best not to spend any more time down in that basement without a face mask or some serious breathing apparatus.
