We had more trouble with mice across the High Voltage filter capacitors.

Makes the bug zapper look tame!

What Kenneth said. Varmints getting in the xmtr more than anything.

FWIW, that was a picture of an Amateur (i.e., "ham") station.

Not long ago, the local Fox station got knocked off the air by a wayward cat getting into the transmitter building...
The Ham tower makes since in that those are usually on rooftops and squrels...sqru...squ...those varmits have no problem getting on rooftops of houses and the like. (Where's that dictionary?)

At the local AM directional broadcast station, we had a constant battle keeping the mice out of the tuning sheds at the tower bases. On more than one occasion a mouse got turned into a potato chip inside one of the matching networks.

I found this 9 ton behemoth parked in my neighborhood:

 -

It's the Tornado Intercept Vehicle ("TIV") from the Discovery Channel TV series, Storm Chasers.

The TIV has been in Lawton undergoing some serious repair work at Great Plains Technology Center. GPTC is also helping in the process of building a new TIV for the Spring 2008 tornado season. Pretty cool. Maybe not as notable as the current Miss America being from Lawton. It's still pretty freaking cool nonetheless.

How does that thing "intercept" a tornado?

Yeah. What Joe said. See the number of "kills" on the side of the vehicle?

Seriously, the TIV is one of at least 3 vehicles they use to chase tornadoes. One of the other vehicles is a mobile doppler radar truck that gives the team a pretty good idea of a tornado's path. The TIV has been hit directly by a few tornadoes -hence some of the damage GPTC is repairing.

One thing I'm wondering: with the windows on the TIV being a bit small-ish, how do they shoot decent footage in formats like IMAX?
