Just 45 Ampere, and that small screen of mine is burning ! It's nice to see a Land Rover doing what it is designed to do. I worked for Land Rover when I was 21 - just a car porter at a "Land Rover Centre". We had a dealer sponsored outting up in Wisconsin, where owners of these cars (as they're called by LR) got to drive them in rugged terrain (some for the first & likely only time). After the event finished I got to drive one of our dealership's '95 Range Rover LWBs through the "course". Certainly one of the more enjoyable times I've had while driving - I wished we would've had a Defender 90 or 110, but the only ones there were owners' cars, so I couldn't drive any, though I did get to ride through in a 90. I'd like to see someone with a Subaru try that! Anther impressive thing about LR's is that you can put one wheel two feet or more up on a rock and all the doors still open and close as normal. Most vehicles doors won't work at all with that much wheel offset. LR's sub frame system that supports the unibody keeps the vehicles body from flexing. Tough vehicles indeed! Rover = Lucas = I've been battling crappy Lucas engineering on my Jaguar ever since I got it. "Prince of Darkness" certainly applies to all vehicles made in Britain during the prince's rule. Anyone else notice JD Power ranked Ford higher than Toyota this year for reliability? Now that they own and engineer Rover and Jag, I bet their quality and reliability will continue to improve greatly. Aftermath of Lucas "Engineering": Note that half of the injector hoses are missing, as well as the distributor cap, and the entire wiring harness. I think the rust on the bellcrank and the fuel rail was caused by whatever they used to put the fire out. This was caused by an incorrectly installed aftermarket stereo by the previous owner.... Go figure. There's brown wires running all over this car that are unfused and hot at all times. Lucas, in all of their wisdom, would install in-line fuses near the component, rather than at the source. So the stereo wiring resulted in a cascading effect on the wiring in the engine compartment. Suprisingly, the heat didn't warp the hood, and the paint still looks shiny. The v12 is a total loss due to the expense of restoring the fuel and ignition system. I'm planning on dropping an LT1 into the car instead. If anyone over there in the UK can source me a brake/clutch pedal box, I'd be happy to reimburse you for the part,shipping, and a little extra for your effort. Gimme Delco or Packard electronics any day over this crap. The AJ-V8 is also used in a special hand assembled version in the Aston Martin V-8 Vantage. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. The V-12 does a little better on the 0-60 at 4.112 sec's! Both were designed by Ford and are based on the Ford Duratec engine. British cars are after all.....British Cars! Expensive to buy, expensive to maintain,... but nothing on the Planet is more fun to drive. Hey,... I'll trade you a can of "CLACO Old Theatre Dust" for that can of "Harness Smoke"????? Electrical Theory by Joseph Lucas: Positive ground depends upon proper circuit functioning and the transmission of negative ions by retention of the visible spectral manifestation known as "smoke." Smoke is the thing that makes electrical circuits work; we know this to be true because every time one lets the smoke out of the electrical system, it stops working. This can be verified repeatedly through empirical testing. When, for example, the smoke escapes from an electrical component (i.e., say, a Lucas voltage regulator), it will be observed that the component stops working. The function of the wire harness is to carry the smoke from one device to another; when the wire harness "springs a leak", and lets all the smoke out of the system, nothing works afterwards.
