One of the problems is in the angle parking areas when these little cars pull up to the curb, it looks like the parking place is empty. That has led to a few screeching brakes and some profanity. I guess if you angle park one of these you should leave it closer to the street so it can be seen. Don't know how or where they hid the crush zones in the structure, since there's so little structure. They're not the best bang-for-the-buck though. For near the same money one can get more capacity and better gas mileage with something like the Honda Fit. But the Smart sure catches the eye everywhere it goes.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. Problem is it weighs almost 1700 lbs. Not cheap either $16,000 or more with the fully loaded version around $21,000. A friend drove one and said the ride was extremely rough and the transmission was wierd. He said the most he would pay for it would be $300.00. Being made by Daimler, it'll probably be troublesome and very expensive to repair. In the photo link here it survived a wreck where it could be booted away, how would it do as the middle vehicle in a 3 vehicle rearender, or in a case where it had to absorb the impact. If you look hard enough, there is a photo out there of one of the very early ('98 or '99) Smarts after an insurance institute test, collapsed like an egg. I don't know how they can make it up a mountain pass! I'd bet that you could take a trip to Europe and buy one and have it UPS'd back for alot less then you could buy them from BMW over here... at least it's BMW here in SLC that's selling em in this area. I tried to send one after I had read the forum instructions how to do it and I must have done something wrong because it showed something else with a warning from Brad to correct it or he will get mad If someone can help me with this, I would appreciate it very much. -Claude  |  IP: Logged Mike Blakesley Film God Posts: 12767 From: Forsyth, Montana Registered: Jun 99 posted 08-07-2008 05:25 PM                        Claude - since you are a photographer I'd bet your warning was because of size. You need to size your pics down to 550 pixels wide or less. If that's not the problem, then the trouble might be with the "image tag code" that's created when you upload a pic. Start a new message on the board, then go to the image-upload place by clicking the IMAGE button (below the text entry area) and put in the location on your computer where the pic resides (using the Browse function makes this easy), and click Submit. This uploads the image to the film-tech server AND it generates a line of code starting with the tag (IMG) --(except the tag has brackets instead of parenthesis). This line of code will appear, along with the picture you uploaded, in a NEW window. Copy this line of code -- the whole thing including the brackets -- (highlight it with your mouse and press CTRL-C) and then close the window, and paste the line of code into the text-entry area on the board. Then post that message and voila, the pic appears on the board. I'm hoping this helps because I'll bet you have some great pics to post.  |  IP: Logged Claude S.
