Well, Toyotas and Nissans are in reality the Chevy's and Ford's of today.... So I'm not sure what you've actually bought. I'll stick with Land Rover though... you'd get VERY stuck in the muck with that truck at many of the places I go.

One thing we both have going is that we both own vehicles that are going to be the only ones of their type when you come back out of Home Depot... I pity the poor Camry and 4-Runner suckers that come out and there are 12 of the same color and year Camry's and 4-Runners in the Home Depot lot [Big Grin]

I would guess that the point of Richard getting this truck is that he WANTED to get it. Some people like the fact that having a truck limits the number of people asking for rides.

What I don't see is the point of getting online trying to make some guy feel guilty about wanting some enjoyment in his life. Jesus Christ, we know the poor guy is not getting laid, let him have some type excitement in his life.

And for the truck haters...Who is the first person you call when you need to move something? If you can afford to pay a moving company $200 to move a couch for you then great, but most people think of their friend with a truck and try to get them to help them move it. Just because someone has a truck does not mean they want to help you move.
That being said...
Richard, You made a terrible decision. I don't see the point of buying a new vehicle. You should not have spent for than $5k on a vehicle. Not only will you be burdened by higher insurance cost, you will also not be able to get the same resale value that you could have with a used truck. I'm sure you will respond by saying something like "Yeah, well it is my money and my life." That is not a good enough answer for me. You need to start living your life the way I expect you to live it.

For those of you who cannot tell I am joking, about the second part, not the first part.

If one is gonna spend bucks on a vehicle like that, should have gone to the moon for a TITAN - if you're a NISSAN buyer..

But, do agree though in buying a truck - go used for lesser ins/vehicle payments (esp for a young person like Richard), for there's ton of them out there with plenty of miles left within them that'll do the same tasks needed as a new one.

Don't think Rick needs to be picked on for being out there in Outback country where you almost have to make up your own roads, he rightfully deserves a LR like that one ...

Don't you love to pick on H2 owners like THIS one?

And my other car is a bicycle. In fact since I bought this in June I've only put 650 miles on it. Also, the Pathfinder is designed in the US and assembled in the US and contains 60% US-sourced parts, including the engine. Compared to most cars these days, that's practically "Made In USA". [Razz]

Joe: You can put your urine to good use by saving it in jars and pouring it on your compost pile like people do here in Eugene. That's too extreme for me though.

I'll keep it in jars, but I'll use it to shower in so I don't have to use water EVER. There's only a few drops of water left in the entire world, after all.

Why, unfortunately, we're seeing prices in inport names just as high as the domestics..being that they're assembled here in the States with inported parts.

(Outdating myself here...) We can remember when Toyotas, Datsuns, Hondas, Subarus and the VW BUG coming across the ponds selling at prices that were tons cheaper than the Big THREE's prices ... and those inports could run circles in quality around their domestic counterparts.

Then came the "Chicken Tax" for each imported pickup - the 25% tariff that was placed on Toyota and Nissan - why these two manufacturers got smart to build factories here in the States to escape that 25% tariff charge on each unit brought in....and the rest is history ..

(Well, if Dave has only stuck 650 miles on the chassis of his NISSAN, he's not endangering the environment..that is definitely called 'casual driving'..and smart in using the bicycle - more healthier that way...)

Not really, only to bonnet (hood) height.
There is not much call for water crossings in the deserts where I mostly go. When it rains there...you go nowhere as everything turns to red mud and soft salt lakes.

Exactly. I wanted a new truck. If I Wanted to haul passengers, I would've bought a Cobalt. I like trucks, always have. And yes, here in the south, women LOVE the trucks.

I have more of a sport truck idea planned for mine. That color, also, happens to be my favorite shade of Blue. I'm extremely happy with it.

It is surprisingly big for it's size too. It is slightly larger than the old S-10.
