I enjoy gambling on occasion. Craps is my favorite game. Maybe some blackjack.
We have a casino in town but I have been there only once. I'm sorry... Once you have been to Vegas and shot dice at Binion's, there is just no place else that compares. Atmosphere and tradition are as important to the game as the game, itself.
I look at gambling the way I look at going out to dinner at a fancy restaurant or going out to the movies. It's a "night out." I have a particular amount of money to spend. Once I reach my limit or get tired, it's time to go home.
If I went to a restaurant and I got bad food, I would certainly complain but, if I didn't get satisfaction, I certainly wouldn't order another plate of the same thing. If I went to the theater and saw a crummy movie I certainly wouldn't turn around and buy another ticket to the same show, hoping that it would be better the next time. That would be throwing good money after bad. And the first rule of gambling is just that: "Never throw good money after bad."
So, why would anybody walk into a casino and overspend their "entertainment budget" thinking that just one more hand of blackjack or just one more round of craps is going to make a difference. If you're having a crummy night at the tables there's nothing you can do to change that. Go home and don't throw good money after bad!
Whatever your budget is, $100 or $1,000 or whatever you have to spend, walk in EXPECTING to spend that much money. When the money is gone, it's time to go home. If you win some, great! If you lose some, no problem if you knew the odds when you started.
To sit there and throw chip after chip onto a "cold table" is just stupidity, as far as I am concerned.

And there's the philosophy that "work begets work" and "unemployment begets unemployment." And, so, like sharks, everybody is compelled to keep moving, lest they end up dead in the water.
One semester, I had SEVEN part-time jobs...plus grad school. Most semesters I had 2 part-time jobs (plus school). Either way, I was out of my house about 13 hours a day. That's uncivilized.
I also loathed the fact that (more often than not) I was working on lame movies that I would never choose to watch. That's not the kind of "show biz" career I wanted.
Personally, I plan to retire with my sanity intact and money in the bank, so no part of that lifestyle seemed right for me. Nobody I knew there had a savings account. Most checking accounts were overdrawn.
I have a good friend there, and whenever I'd get to talking to him about my feelings on the whole situation, his face would start to twitch. He knew exactly what I was talking about, but I could tell he wasn't quite ready to deal with it. Oh well, he's a little younger. Maybe time is on his side.
A former business associate and long-time friend recommended me for the Technical Manager position at the new IU Cinema (still under construction) and I got the gig. I decided to take the plunge because I like what they are trying to do here. They're making every effort to do film right, including THX certification, which will make IU Cinema one of only 2 such installations in the entire state.

The two Kerasotes are now owned by AMC - The Showplace 12 near the highway has a digital screen which always seems to have a 3D movie running. The Showplace 11 (on College Mall) is closer to my house but it seems a little older.
BTW both screenings I've been to suffered from some kind of operator error. Wrong movie started in the digital house at the Showplace 12, and the 3D was too dim. Wrong masking at the Showplace 11. My former boss had a saying: "pay peanuts, get monkeys."

Wow, Manny, a thousand thanks for summing up the reality of La La Land..this is exactly why I am shutting down my business.
I can add to that the ridiculous taxes and fees that small businesses have to pay, even if they are not turning a profit!
Unfortunately my only out-of-state relative is living in Vegas, so it would not be wise to try to move out there either, without a guaranteed job..one of my former bosses has a business in Vegas providing techs for live shows and even his business is down this past year or so.
I am at a loss as to what to do at the moment.
To end this on a lighter note, I have only one thing to say:
