Discussions about the white house projection booth has been covered here at FT but no one seem to know what kind of projection set p is being used there. The process and security measures for the president to go any where are just mind numbing.Second, Mike as much as I respect you. I've got to call bull. If the president wanted to come to The Roxy you would welcome him with open arms. Hell any of us would, and if they paid even better. But nobdys going to go "Hey Prez! Thats $37.50 for the wife and kids. Today it doesn't take anywhere near as much in terms of actual tickets sold as it did 10 or 20 years ago for a movie to gross $150 million. The $200 million mark for costs doesn't evoke gasps of shock like it did when Titanic was surpassing that budgetary mark nearly 13 years ago. Movie gross numbers simply are not as impressive as they used to be. The $100 million mark was impressive over 20 years ago. Now it doesn't mean anything, especially for any wide release. Sure, a low budget movie making $100 million is great in terms of profit. However, the general public still isn't going to care. A $500 million gross is pretty impressive since $500 million is a nice round number. But $500 million isn't nearly so impressive in terms of marketing hype when that's the worldwide gross. Lots of movies have done that already. It's common. Who cares? The only way I'm going to care about that is if I get paid a chunk of that money. I don't think I'm going to find a box office gross number truly impressive until a movie's gross for the United States alone surpasses $1 billion. That mark may be achieved sometime during this new decade especially if trends in rising ticket pricing continue.  |  IP: Logged
