Author Topic: Upload your random pictures (part 4) Randy Stankey Film God Posts: 6539 From: Erie, Pennsylvania Registered: Jun 99 posted 03-28-2012 04:44 PM                     If you assume that every person who was cited that day was destined to cause a fatality because they were using a cell phone while driving if they didn't get stopped by the cops and if you add the number of lives the police chief says would have been saved, the number adds up to 37 people who didn't die. However, there were 112 fatalities due to drunk driving. Isn't it logical for the police to spend their money on D.U.I. checkpoints versus paying cops to dress like homeless people? What portion of all the people who died due to any kind of motor vehicle accident, regardless of the cause, because they didn't get to the hospital soon enough? Wouldn't it make more sense to have more ambulances available? How about building a field hospital to handle trauma cases that are too distant from the main hospital to receive urgent care? What if British Columbia passed a law that allowed insurance companies to drop their coverage on motorists who receive one citation for driving with a cell phone? Combine that with a "zero-tolerance policy" giving the police very limited discretion on issuing tickets for people caught with cell phones while driving. That would stop the problem in a heartbeat. Further, it would cost the government/police almost no extra money for enforcement over what they are already spending on "stepped up enforcement." It wouldn't divert police manpower away from other critical functions. How many other people might have been killed, injured or become victims of crimes because the cops were dressing up like homeless people? I agree with Frank. It's nothing more than a stunt but I don't agree that it was a good stunt.
