The pedestals base are actually reversed from the way they should be sitting. If one fell over it would be no surprise!

I always liked those stands when doing temporary installs because they were a little easier to carry and move during setup and strike. They're still fairly heavy - I never felt they were lacking in stability. As for the ones in the picture, that's the way we usually put them in - with one leg facing forward. With the installations I did, the projector weighed more than the lamphouse, so having a stand leg under the projector seemed to be the way to go.

I suspect the stands are bolted to the platform.

I saw quite a few of these recycling trash cans on one
of my recent film festival excursions. Some bins were
actually marked "Cans Only " and "Bottles Only "
 -

But, inside, it all goes into the same trash bag!
 -

(What made this funny to me is that I had stood and
watched someone take a bag of cans and bottles out
of his car and carefully stand there and sort through
them to make sure each one went in the proper 'hole' )

Maybe so, but every installation I can recall seeing and every old
projection room photo I can find shows the 'leg' towards the rear.
I don't think it's a matter of which end is heavier, (the projector or
the lamphouse,) but where the 'center of gravity' is.

Of course! I implied that since I thought the projector weighed more than the lamphouse, the center of gravity would be toward the projector, hence placing one leg directly under the projector. But since all the installations you guys have seen with this type of stand have one leg pointed to the rear under the lamphouse, that must've been the intended way of installation. As I stated earlier, I've only done temporary installs using this kind of stand - guess I got lucky that none of them tipped during those shows. [Smile]

Yep, I make widescreen videos with my smartphone and show people that holding the phone sideways that you do capture a lot more info.

With DCP-o-Matic, it comes in handy to make DCP content from your own phone.

I think the rake on the projector would affect the center of gravity. Thus either position for the pedestal would be correct given the particular circumstances.

From a 'clean up' day in 2014 at the Rialto Theatre in Pasadena, CA. Anyone care to ID the lamphouse sitting in the orchestra pit? [Smile]

I thought it might have been a Magnarc but was thrown off by the lack of the glass backlit name badge along the top. I take it later Magnarcs didn't have that badge...

My first reaction to the photo a few posts back was to say "Magnarc",
but the more I looked at that lamphouse, the more I think it isn't.

Aside from the lack of the usual glass name-plate on top, the ass-end
is all wrong for the Magnarcs I can recall working with. The metal-work
along the top is different too.

Magnarcs had dowser handles on both the 'operating' and 'non-operating'
sides of the lamphouse. The lamphouse in the center of the photo doesn't
appear to have a dowser handle on its' non-operating side.

Also, the doors on a Magnarc swung UP to open. The lamphouse in the picture
clearly has hinges on the front which means the door swings open from the rear.

The only place a Magnarc had a hinge assembly like that was in the rear, so
that you could swing open the back-cover to change the negative carbon.

All these things make me think that it's not a Magnarc. Close, but no cigar.

(It's also making me think that I have entirely too much free time this week)
