That being said the three thine Iv had to go through TSA screenings (Two in Charleston one at LGA) Iv had a painless experience and none took more than about 10 min. They were helpful and polite with me getting my items in and out the bins. I know this is however not the norm...  |  IP: Logged Mike Blakesley Film God Posts: 12767 From: Forsyth, Montana Registered: Jun 99 posted 03-29-2013 02:33 PM                        In the past few years either my wife or I (or both) have been through the airports in Billings MT, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Boise, Seattle, Sacramento, Denver, Minneapolis and Kalispell MT. I would have to say that the TSA people we've encountered have been friendly for the most part. While I agree that the agency is largely for "security theater," I'm inclined to give them a break. They have to process a ton of people as fast as possible, and think about it: It's gotta be one of the most boring, yet stressful, jobs there is, and it's a completely thankless job. I do think a lot of people mistake a "businesslike" and/or "in a hurry" attitude for rudeness. In my experience if you cooperate, keep moving, and don't cause a stupid ruckus, you're fine. I've sometimes been thanked for having already pulled my laptop out, taken my shoes off, emptied the contents of my pockets and belt into my carry-on etc., by the time I get to the front of the line. It's the passengers who don't do any of this and then have to faff about for 2-3 minutes next to the machine with a long line behind them that tends to put the TSA people in a crabby mood. Also, when things go wrong, they're under a lot of pressure. I remember once going through at Minneapolis just after it re-opened after a two-hour storm closure. The line stretched all the way out of the terminal and into the car drop-off area. No two TSA inspections are the same. I have real empathy with foreign inspectors onto USA bound flights; they are just trying to do what the TSA tells them. It leaves them stunned and confused. You would at least think all the USA located inspections should want the same thigns. As a former police officer and security officer I can tell you those folks are only doing what they are told. A teenager hops a fence and gets into the wheel well of a jet airline and flies all the way to Hawaii but all they do is give him a doughnut and send him home but a guy tries to go through a passenger gate with a pair of nail clippers and he's treated like a terrorist? Those officers have to do a very difficult job but it wouldn't be so hard if their bosses didn't have their heads up their asses.  |  IP: Logged
