I know what reversed 3D looks like, and this wasn't it. Foreground things were still in front of background things. And I exaggerated in saying "nothing" came out. A rare pointing finger, or an occasional flying brick, or the logo stuff DID come out.

Here's a link to a picture of the Barco projector from their site
I don't think I'd be willing to buy one of those due to it being extremely fugly. Expensive equipment should look good.

Mike is right, that sounds like the phase switch is in the "up" position when it should be down. Check the back of the Real D unit in the projector, that's where the switch is. Same thing happened to me when I first ran some 3D content. When we switched it down, then the 3D came shooting out of the screen.

Actaully Daryl, the Barco looks much cooler in person when running. Reminds me a lot of a super computer from a late '80s movie with its blue glowing panel and green corner lights. Ours is also all black.

That is pretty ugly. What happens to the DLP chip when the xenon bulb explodes? What type of protection is built in to keep the electronics safe?

I'd love to see some "after" photos of the insides after the bulb blows. [evil]

The bulb is completely encased in a removable lamp housing unit. Even the front has a glass filter sheild on it. AN explosion inside would mean most likely just replacing the housing unit.

BTW, they decided they want to run the bulb at 120%, so now this becomes more of a possibility.

"Building" the print and trailers and policy spots is a breeze! Drag and drop couldn't get simpler.

Yep. Dolby's digital cinema system has a great interface. It was one of my favorite things I saw at ShoWest last year.

I agree. It's just too bad that every interface to anything on a computer screen these days has to look like a rounded, brushed metal console with embossed buttons. Nothing wrong with them, since I prefer simple over ornate, but gunmetal gray just seems unoriginal. Just a pet peeve. [Wink]

Quoting from the Megaplex Theatres website for the 3D showings at Jordan Commons:

Come experience, for the first time, anywhere in Utah, 3-D Digital. No film means the best presentation possible.
A friend will be at the 5:45 show Friday. I hope to get a report from him.

Watched the 3D feature. The best 3D was the logos at the beginning for the respective companies involved in the project. Chicken Little's 3D was at times quite impressive, but too much -Z and not enough +Z axis was used, like mentioned before.

All and all, I can't wait for an action flick or sci-fi flick in 3D. That's going to really bring in the crowds.

You'll have a major live action blockbuster in digital 3D in the Spring.

1 whole person came to the press screening last night. 1!!! I honestly don't think he stayed through the entire movie because I was talking to him since I know him from screenings we had at my old theater and he said he already seen it and didn't like it but wanted to check it out in 3D.

A few notes:

1. If I read this correctly, if your "phase" switch is set wrong, the 3-D doesn't work correctly... true?

2. The glasses for this film are circular polarization, not standard 3-D glasses used since the 1950s. So customers HAVE to use the Chicken Little glasses for this to work (or you can buy circular polarization glasses from third party vendors, I believe).

3. WAS this 3-D created by rendering both eyes? Or just using one eye and then extrapolating the other? Anybody know for sure?

thanks,

Jeff

According to Chuck Viane of Disney at a Showeast seminar, ILM was told to render a 3D version with 14 weeks to go before release. ILM initially said it was not possible in the remaining time, which would indicate the project was well under way.

Actually ILM was told to re-render. They've been working on the project since June, when Disney initially put it together. Disney's concern was that the initial ILM renders appeared to make the audience appear as spectators of a 3D film, whereas they wanted the audience to "feel as if they are guests in Chicken Little's house."

Jeff, you might want to contact Ray Zone as to the rendering.
