I like the Brand Lock-up 1 because it doesn't de-emphasize the Atmos brand for the Dolby brand. The horizontal aspect would work on print pieces and credits equally.
Alternatives #8 and 9 are the best of the bunch in my opinion, simply because it puts the Atmos brand in the forefront. The Dolby Double-D is there so people familiar with that mark will make the association. In reality, though, Atmos is the brand that should be put out there in front of people. It's short, to the point, and it emphasizes that particular product as opposed the company behind it. If they didn't want to lose the Dolby wording altogether, they could do "by Dolby" underneath it in a secondary/minimized placement.
Personally, I've never liked the "In Selected Theatres" phrase, as it immediately places a question in the viewers mind as to whether what they're seeing actually applies. It blunts the message as soon as it's delivered.
At the very least, the wording could be changed ever so slightly to "In Select Theaters" which implies a position or rank of sorts, as opposed to someone selecting which theaters get it. If you want to be one of those "Select" theaters, pull out your wallet and start installing some speakers!
On the subject of Atmos installations, Marcus Theatres last week announced their first Atmos installation will be at a new location they are building near Madison, WI. Most recently, a new UltraScreen in Gurnee, IL was opened with an Auro 11.1 sound system.

Here's a list of movies released in North America with Dolby Atmos.
US Releases with Dolby Atmos
2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Fox, 7-18 X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fox, 5-23 Rio 2, Fox, 4-11 300: Rise of an Empire, Warner Bros., 3-7 Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Fox, 3-7 I, Frankenstein, Lionsgate, 1-24
2013 The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Fox, 12-25 The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, WB/New Line, 12-13 Frozen, Disney, 11-27 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Lionsgate, 11-22 Thor: The Dark World, Marvel/Disney, 11-8 Ender's Game, Summit Entertainment, 11-1 Metallica: Through the Never, Picturehouse Entertainment, 10-4 Gravity, Warner Bros., 10-4 Insidious: Chapter 2, FilmDistrict, 9-13 Elysium, TriStar, 8-9 Planes, Disney, 8-9 Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Fox, 8-7 The Wolverine, Fox, 7-26 Turbo, Dreamworks, 7-17 Pacific Rim, Warner Bros., 7-12 The Heat, Fox, 6-28 Monsters University, Disney/Pixar, 6-21 Man of Steel, Warner Bros., 6-14 Epic, Fox, 5-24 Star Trek into Darkness, Paramount, 5-17 Iron Man, Paramount/Marvel/Disney 5-3 Oblivion, Universal, 4-19 Trance, Pathe/Fox, 4-5 G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Paramount, 3-29 The Croods, Dreamworks, 3-22 Oz the Great and Powerful, Disney, 3-8 A Good Day to Die Hard, Fox, 2-14 Mama, Universal, 1-18
2012 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, WB/New Line, 12-14 Rise of the Guardians, Dreamworks, 11-21 Life of Pi, Fox, 11-21 Chasing Mavericks, Fox, 10-26 Taken 2, Fox, 10-5 Brave, Disney, 6-22
One thing I think is kind of odd is how there's only a few future Atmos releases in the pipeline. Maybe the studios are taking their time making the official announcements. There's a few Summer releases not already on the Atmos list that I think would be safe bets to have Atmos, such as Godzilla or Maleficent. But who knows?

I put together this list based on Dolby's own Atmos-equipped theaters map. There's about 120 locations. Unfortunately it doesn't break down how many screens are equipped with Atmos at each location. I've made note of multiple Atmos screens where I knew for sure 2 or more Atmos systems were installed.

quote: Bobby Henderson I think Dolby would only be helping themselves sell more Atmos systems if they could get the word out about upcoming Atmos supported movies as soon as possible.
Dolby should do some kind of co-op program where if they're dealing with the studio/distributor (since most move display advertising is placed by the distributor, not the theater), the studio gets a break on licensing fees if they include Atmos designations for individual theaters. If they're dealing with the theatre, the theatre gets some kind of credits (or cash) that would be good for service or equipment or promo material or something.
What's the point of having a great sound system if no one knows it's there?
This was a big problem for THX in those days as well. The few NYC theaters that were THX equipped never advertised the fact in movie ads. However, when I used to visit Los Angeles, they all did.
I went to a theatre some months back, bought a ticket and then realized that the film was playing in Atmos on the RPX screen. So I went to the service desk to switch to the different screen/show and I told them why. The manager said, "oh, it's not playing in Atmos." I said, "the film is in Atmos and that's an Atmos screen. Are you telling me you didn't get the Atmos DCP?" I bought a ticket for that screen anyway. It was in Atmos and they played the Atmos snipe. So even the theaters don't know what they're doing.
The fact is that in markets where either one chain dominates or where one chain has an exclusive on the film, they don't care where you see the film (with the exception that if they can get you into the "special" screens (RPX, ETX, Lie-Max, etc), they can charge you more. So with that exception, the theaters don't really have an incentive to push special sound formats if they don't think it drives revenue. Of course, then you can ask why they bothered to install it in the first place.
