I'm with Matt on this. Just make the customer happy. If it's a habitual thing, then stop it. But for the average person, just give em a pass. It's worth it to keep them coming back. Never say "tough shit." Just offer a pass.

If somebody watches the whole movie I won't give them there money back because they 'didn't like it.' I might give them passes depending on the situation.

However, if someone comes out less than halfway through the movies-especially in the 15 minutes after the previews are done-I'm happy to give them their money back.

We offer refunds up to 30 minutes after start time. That's 20 minutes into a movie. After that (so long as it's prior to the end of the film) we will give passes. After the film, it's case-by-case.

We try to get them to take passes as the first option. If they insist on the cash, we usually just go ahead and give the refund. I feel it's better to have a happy customer that will keep coming back than the extra 5-10 dollars.

Well, everybody does it their own way. We would never give out a pass because a person watched a movie and decided they didnt like it. With all the 2005 crap that came out, we would have given out a large amount of passes. The only time we'd give out a pass is for a technical, presentation problem, or if the person had an emergency or got sick...other than that, no pass.

Well there's a difference between "doesn't like a movie" and "was offended by a movie." If a patron just didn't like the show, they just walk out. I don't think I've ever had someone ask for their money back on that basis. But if someone is offended by the language or whatever, and they complain to that effect, we'll give them a pass.

I'd still disagree with that unless they went with kids to a PG or PG-13 movie and heard really bad language. I'd offer a pass in that instance as long as they didnt sit through the whole movie...probably half way would be my cut-off point. If they goto an R movie and was offended at something rhey saw, then thats too bad. The movie ratings are there to warn customers that there may be offensive material in the movie.

Words can be interchanged, but essentially, if someone decides they dont like a movie, and they want their money back THATS TOO BAD ... and yes, it has happened where people come out and ask for their money back or sometimes a pass because "that was a stupid movie". If any of you give out passes to people just because they don't like a movie, let me know where your at, and next time I'm in the area, I'll be sure to come by and watch em all... [thumbsup]

I think you missed where, in my post I said:

One pass for one time is not going to kill your bottom line. You can tell which customers are pass abusers, but I lean on the side of service, not disservice.

On Saturday a woman in the lobby asked me who the killer was in Bubble. Without really thinking first, I asked "Have you seen the movie?" I just assumed that anybody wanting to know who the killer was clearly hadn't seen the movie. She just kind of laughed and we talked for a few minutes, and she explained her massive theory of who the REAL killer was. I just have to leave it at "Wow, I hadn't thought that much in to it, I guess!"

Bubble is one of the most simple, straightforward films I have ever seen. Asking who the killer was is akin to asking what happened after an episode of "Blue's Clues".

I had a customer walk up to the concession stand, her pocket crinkling the whole time mind you, and asked for a cup of water. Well carmike doesn't give free cups, so my employee told her we'd have to charge the price of a drink. Long story short she flips out and goes off on a rant that "IT'S THE LAW, I HAVE TO GIVE HER FREE WATER!"

My other favorite is when Senior Douchebag walks up to me and says "Um yeah, it's really loud in there, and I think I speak for everyone. So would it be possible for you to turn it down." I just want to ask them if a can review the pregnant chad that elected them spokesman of Auditorium 3.

Really, no friggin courtesy cups from Carmike, now? [Eek!]

Our fountains probably haven't worked in a decade, so we have a filtered water line in the stand. But, with 3/5 auditoriums upstairs & the stand downstairs, there's always some grumbling.

Carmike still gives out courtesy cups. His manager probably just forgot to order them or some other bs [Roll Eyes] .

And as much as I hate the 'I speak for everyone person' did you actually bother to have someone check and make sure it wasn't too loud?

No wonder this company is losing money.
