Author Topic: rant on stupid customers Mike Croaro Master Film Handler Posts: 394 From: Millbrae, CA Registered: Apr 2005 posted 11-06-2005 11:29 PM                     Hi Folks: Years ago the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, CA ran into the "loud & routy" problem with about 30 students and their teacher. The film showing was "Shindler's List". This group had been told repeatly to quiet down and apparently they refused. Management finally stopped the show, raised the lights, and asked the offending group to leave. The remaining audience applauded loudly. This story made all of the newspapers and television stations in the area. Some of you must have heard about it. I was attempting to sound Stereotypical in saying that most of the loud patrons that I have witnessed have been Young Adult, African American Females. Maybe I chose the wrong word in that post aswell. After reading your post [I wasn't at my computer and I didn't know my password to FT} I thought everything over, and even had someone that knows me review the post. They read it, and said it did sound kinda racial, but he knew that I didn't mean it that way. I also tend to find it hard to deal with such situations when the persons causing the problems are of another races, for fear of them calling me discriminating. To get back on the topic, I thank everyone for replying about the what would have been the best option to exicute. Mind you I have never stopped a show to remove anyone from the theatre before, but I had heard of it, and was looking for input on what would be a situation that might require that. On one hand, my hands are tied. I don't want to turn off the projector at all!!! On the other hand, my hands would be HANDCUFFED if I didn't! I choose the "hands are tied"... we stopped the show(s) 4 to be exact, and they were, you guessed it... "Harry Potter"! (I really didn't feel like going to Jail tonight for interfering with a Police investigation. I am home now, It was a true emergency as the parents they were looking for were found, and their child was previously flown to San Diego to the trauma center because of a very bad accident. One woman came out after the movie to complain. I explained the situation to her and offered her RE-ad's, but she declined. I gave them to her anyway. This is where it gets good..... 11:30am screening about half way through the feature a stunned patron walks down to me in the foyer and complains that she can hear a dog barking, as shocked as i was i ran into the cinema hoping that it wasnt a human snoring.The patron points out where she could hear the barking from so i walked over to the spot pointed out and ohh yeah another patron had brought a dog to the screening, so i then got her and her dog out of the cinema. I asked her how and why she got/took a dog into the cinema and her reply was it had nothing else to do.I told her she could stay but the dog would have to leave she was ok with that so she tied the dog up out the front of the cinema. At the end of the screening she came out to collect her dog from the front of the cinema but bad news.... haha someone had stolen it and ofcourse i was to blame..... I have two teen girls come up to me and complain that someone had taken their seats when they went up to buy concession. Naturally I assumed that someone had just made a mistake and had unknowingly sat down in the girl's seats. Nope. The girls tell me that the people had actually moved the girls jackets out of the way (they threw them in the asle) and sat down and of course couldn't care less when the girls told them that they were sitting there first. Oh in for the kicker the people in question where two parents in their early thirties and their two kids probably about 5 and 7 years old. So I went in to confront the parents who even admitted that they knowly took the seats but did so because they could not find four seats together (and acted like that was my fault or something). Now the show was a near sell out but not a complete one so there were quite a few open seats available all through out the auditorium so I offered to find them other seats but they would have to split up to one parent and one child. Well they refused that offer and refused to move stating that they had to wait in a long line (like everyone else) and that seat saving should not be allowed. At this point I should point out that there was a group of about 8 teen girls (15 or 16yrs old), they came in and found their seats together and four of them went to buy concession and four remained to watch the seats. These "parents" actually had to nerve to say something to the effect of that "since the girls had left, their seats were fair game". So I actually said that so if they (the parents) were to get up to use the restroom or buy food than anyone else can take their seats and that would be ok baised on their logic. About then the father told me that unless I found them 4 seats together, they were not moving. So anyway while I was contemplating whether or not to have mall security remove them (they just happen to be in the lobby at the time), some other customers offered to move together so that they could open up four seats and they finally moved. Very gracious on the other customers part as I dont think I would have wanted these rude people sitting next to me for the next three hours. I was pretty professional about the whole situation but damn if I didnt want to ask just what kind of example did they think they were setting for their children.  |  IP: Logged Paul J. The butter is marked on top "HOT BUTTER TOPPING", well, sure enough, she asks me, "Are both of these Butter?". I assume she is asking about the 2 self serve butter stations and answer. "Yes they are both butter". Doesn't she put her popcorn bag under the mustard? She didn't even notice and walked away!!  |  IP: Logged
